The Laurel is one of the longest standing names in Japanese automotive luxury, and this 1998 C35 Club S Type X is a fantastic example of the chassis’ final iteration. The FRP IMPUL body kit is worth its weight in gold, and covers the front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper and spoiler and really works to make this saloon stand out from other commuters on the road. The Spark Silver Metallic (KL0) paintwork shows well, save for a few chips and dings here and there, and a set of 19″ Arthur Exchange LK’s serve as a perfect compliment, with lowering springs eliminating wheel gap for a VIP inspired aesthetic. Aside from looking good, this sleek sedan has strong mechanicals too, and the 89k miles on the clock are verified and documented, making you feel good about your purchase of this RB powered sedan. Sleek, comfortable, and almost too cool for words, this Laurel Club S is a definitive Japanese Classic!
On a luxury sedan, you’d expect the interior to hold up over the years, and this C35 was clearly well cared for in a prior life. The leather upholstery has stood up to almost three decades of use without any serious defects, and the OEM optional woodgrain appearance package is a nice complement. While the power adjustability on the drivers seat has given up the ghost, both forward occupants gain dual SRS airbags for a bit of added safety behind the wheel. The center stack frames an easy to use digital climate control system, where both hot heat and cold A/C work like a charm. Adjacent to the HVAC, the OEM audio sounds surprisingly good for its age and complements the inline six soundtrack nicely. All four power windows work as advertised, as do the locks, mirrors, and factory keyless entry. Sadly the passenger mirror no longer electronically folds, but that’s really nitpicking on a vehicle of this vintage. The headliner is tidy, save for a few slight spots of discoloration, and the carpets beneath have been protected by some premium OEM mats. For a daily transporter, Cars&Coffee cruiser, or Nissan show standout, this cabin does it all, and does it well. We’ve even retained the owners manual and plenty of factory literature to protect your investment!
The RB25 is a storied powerplant that’s seen use in everything from competition winning drift cars to high horsepower dragway champions. This RB25DE is a naturally aspirated variant that works perfectly in the C35 chassis, with NEO technology giving the 2.5 some much needed giddyup in the top end. Ours is fresh off a recent service by our trained technicians, and we started off by replacing the 12v battery to ensure it starts the first time, every time. From there we performed an oil and filter service and changed out the valve cover gaskets and oil pan gasket to seal up any unwanted leaks of lubricant, and we went ahead and dropped in new spark plugs for a bit of a preemptive tune up. A new engine air filter and fuel filter were installed and this RB now runs right as rain, with a Raizer catback exhaust bringing out some inline 6 auditory goodness. A 4 speed automatic gearbox offers selective shifts through the steering wheel mounted controls, and power is sent rearward with haste. The suspension is pleasantly comfortable over larger road imperfections and manage to stiffen up the handling a tad too. The power steering is light as a feather, and the ABS brakes clamp down confidently. The 19’s are wrapped in brand new tires. The fresh rubber looks good, rides comfortably and should deliver tens of thousands of miles of reliable grip to come!
