To most Toyota nuts, it doesn’t get much better than a diesel 80 series Land Cruiser. Our 1993 has a menacing aesthetic to match the strictly business drivetrain, and is finished in a one-off Paramount Black. Set off by LED tail lamps, OEM rainguards, privacy tint, and some prominent 16″ refinished Deerfield Pitney alloys, this all terrain hauler has a clean bill of health and was kept well over the years, save for some rock chips and dings here and there. The 131k miles on the clock are verified and documented too, which is nothing on this legendary turbodiesel. Serviced, reconditioned, and turn-key ready for your next big adventure, this is one killer Japanese Classic rig!
Over three decades after rolling off the assembly line, it’s impressive to see how well Toyota built these cabins back in the day. The alcantara upholstery has resisted any serious defects over the years aside from some pilling on the suede, and the dash has some typical cracking atop the gauge hood. Easy to navigate and rich with amenities, the center stack houses automatic climate control and a period-correct Panasonic touch screen headunit. The sound quality is decent for its age, and the HVAC features rear heat and A/C too to make things more comfortable for your rearmost occupants. Another cool feature, pun intended, is the OEM coolbox center console which features an integrated ice maker as well as a chiller for your canned beverages and snacks. All four power windows slide up and down easily and the power locks and electric folding side mirrors work like new too! For maximum cargo capacity, the rear bench tumbles forward and the seatbacks can recline if your passengers need to catch some shuteye. The headliner is taut against the roof and the carpets are tidy too.
The chassis is borderline unstoppable, but it would be nothing without the durable diesel powering it! The 4.2TD under the bonnet is a great unit and it’s been given a comprehensive service here for a true turn-key experience. To start, we installed two new 12v batteries and performed a fresh oil and filter service. To address some leaky lubricant, a new valve cover gasket was installed and we also serviced the oil pan gasket. We performed a coolant flush and with the maintenance performed the 1HD-T runs right as rain! Full time 4WD works like a charm and a center locking differential can engage if you become entrenched in some tough terrain. We replaced both rear upper trailing arms to refresh the drivetrain a bit, and the suspension feels well sorted overall for a 30 year old truck. The power steering is filled with new fluid, it’s light and easy to navigate and the brakes are bolstered with new pads up front. We even wrapped the three piece alloys in fresh Falken rubber and performed a fresh alignment up on the rack to keep you tracking straight for tens of thousands of miles to come!
