Honda Motor Co. was founded in 1948. The B16A VTEC of 1989 launched a line of high-revving NA performance cars: Civic Type R (EK9, EP3, FD2), Integra Type R (DC2, DC5), and the NSX (NA1, NA2) mid-engine V6. The S2000 (AP1 with F20C; AP2 with F22C1 in North America from 2004 and Japan from 2006, F20C elsewhere) hit 9,000 RPM and 120 hp/liter at launch in 1999. At the kei end, the Beat PP1 mid-engine roadster and the Acty HA4 commercial van work under the 660cc dimensional ceiling. The Prelude is the long-running FWD sports coupe.
