About the Nissan Skyline R34

The R34 Skyline GT-R (BNR34) was produced from 1998 to 2002 as the final iteration of the RB26DETT-ATTESA platform. Development focused on handling refinement: the wheelbase was shortened relative to the BCNR33, reverting toward R32 proportions to recover turn-in response. ATTESA-ETS Pro replaced the previous system, providing real-time torque distribution data to the Multi-Function Display mounted in the cockpit. The shorter stance also enabled revised front-end cooling geometry.

Production variants include the V-spec (active LSD, revised ATTESA controller, 17-inch BBS wheels), V-spec II (progressive rear suspension calibration), V-spec II Nür (NISMO N1 engine components, Brembo brakes, carbon-ceramic front rotors on N1 variant), M-spec (comfort-oriented trim without the aero package), and M-spec Nür. The Z-Tune, a post-production Nismo-built variant limited to 11 units, used a bored 2.8L RB28DETT. Non-GT-R R34 trims: ER34 GT-T coupe, ER34 sedan, and 25GT-X, are rear-wheel-drive with RB25DET.

BNR34 production ended in August 2002. The earliest 1998 examples became US-eligible from 2023; the full production run clears by late 2027. Non-GT-R ER34 from early 1998 entered eligibility from 2023. The BNR34 carries a VIN on the firewall and a chassis plate on the door jamb, both referenced during NHTSA 25-year exemption documentation. Factory Brembo calipers on V-spec trims require pad-to-caliper compatibility verification against available US-market alternatives.
