S13 Silvia (1988-1993). JDM-only notchback coupe launched with the CA18DET 1.8L turbo in K's trim and CA18DE naturally-aspirated in Q's. The SR20DET 2.0L turbo replaced the CA18DET from 1991; SR20DE followed in Q's trim. K's carries the turbocharged engine with a close-ratio five-speed; Q's the naturally-aspirated unit. About the Nissan Silvia S13
The S13 Silvia launched in 1988 on a newly developed rear-wheel-drive platform replacing the S12. The CA18DET 1.8L twin-cam turbo debuted in K's trim at 175ps, a compact 1,809cc four-cylinder with willingness to respond to boost increases, which established the S13 as a tunable platform alongside the factory performance specification. The CA18 carries a separate collector following from the later SR20DET among buyers who prefer the lighter engine weight and factory output characteristics.
From 1991, Nissan replaced the CA18DET with the SR20DET 2.0L twin-cam turbo in K's trim at 205ps. Q's trim carries the naturally-aspirated SR20DE through both the CA and SR production periods. K's is turbocharged; Q's is naturally-aspirated. This naming convention continued unchanged through S14 and S15. Zenki body style (1988-1991) covers the CA and early SR period; Kouki (1991-1993) revised the front bumper, rear panel, and interior details while coinciding with the SR20DET introduction across most exported examples.
The 180SX (RPS13) shares the S13 chassis code family, suspension geometry, and drivetrain but uses a fastback hatchback body. The two are catalogued separately. The S13 Silvia notchback was JDM-only; the export equivalent was the 240SX notchback in North America (KA24E/KA24DE engined, different body panels forward of the A-pillar). All S13 Silvia variants are US-eligible under the 25-year rule; the earliest 1988 examples cleared eligibility in 2013, and the full production run was legal by 2018. Right-hand drive.
