Background

Overview

The Z34 (2009-2020), sold as the 370Z, sharpened the Z33's chassis and replaced the VQ35HR with the VQ37VHR — a 3.7L V6 with VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) and SynchroRev Match on the 6MT. The chassis is tighter, the body shorter, and the cabin meaningfully improved over the Z33. NISMO 370Z and Sport trims are the most desirable; base Touring cars are the practical bargain entry point. Production continued unchanged for over a decade, which is unusual for a Japanese sports car and reflects Nissan's reluctance to invest in a profit-marginal platform.

The Z34's known weak points are the electronic steering lock module (2009-2011 cars received a recall) and the CSC clutch hydraulics shared with the Z33. Master clutch assembly failure is the most-reported manual-transmission issue. Catalytic converter failure is the other recurring expense. Aftermarket OEM-replacement clutch hydraulics solve the CSC problem permanently. Z34 prices are firming as the last 'simple' Z (NA V6, hydraulic steering, no driver-assist systems) before the RZ34's turbocharged, electronically-assisted successor.
