Description

Nissan’s secret sauce isn’t such a secret, once you get behind the wheel. This sedan's wonderful driving dynamics are bolstered by near 50/50 weight distribution, rear-drive, and a powerful inline six. Even with two extra doors, Nissan’s Skyline sedan proves you don’t have to compromise on performance to give the R34 platform a bit of functionality. It still boasts the same iconic styling that enthusiasts love, and a tried and true turbocharged rear-wheel-drive layout. Our 1998 R34 GT-X is a one-owner example, finished in Sonic Silver Metallic (KR4) and set off by OEM rainguards, a factory rea

r spoiler, and brand new Enkei NT03 wheels. Fortune Auto coilovers give this sedan a snazzy stance, and are brand new, to boot. Save for a few nicks and dings in the paint, the cosmetics are in good shape, and this frisky four-door touts only 74k verified and documented miles on the clock. Ideal for family cruising, parking lot show-offs, or as a clean base for the ultimate sleeper sedan, there’s no car that screams “Japanese Classic” quite like an R34! Nissan was hitting their stride in the late 90s, especially when it came to cabin design. This R34’s cockpit feels like it could have existed 10 years later, thanks to modern materials, easy-to-use power equipment, and standard safety features. The seats are upholstered in a sleek sport mesh. Free of excessive stains, bolster wear, or unsightly rips and tears, the fabric is in good shape overall and nicely complements the black vinyl on the dash. Dual SRS airbags are tucked away to keep forward occupants safe, and the center stack frames digital automatic climate control and functional OEM audio. The latter sounds good for being almost three decades old, and the former helps supply the cabin with cold A/C and hot heat. The driver can get comfortable behind a tilt-adjustable steering column, and although there’s some wear to the leather on the steering wheel and e-brake handle, the touch points are in decent shape overall. The dash cover shows no cracks, fading, or ultraviolet distortion, and the same can be said for the door cards. Power windows, locks, and folding side view mirrors all work like a charm, as does keyless entry. The rear bench is where this Skyline really shines. It’s spacious enough for three additional passengers without compromising trunk space. An optional triple gauge pod is fully functional, and to sweeten the deal, we’ve retained owners’ manuals and maintenance booklets. Nissan’s secret sauce isn’t such a secret, once you get behind the wheel. This sedan’s wonderful driving dynamics are bolstered by near 50/50 weight distribution, rear-drive, and a powerful inline six. The RB25DET NEO is a killer powerplant, and ours is fresh off an oil and filter service. It springs to life quickly, and a new engine air filter and fuel filter have been installed when it was on the lift. Best of all, one of our trained techs has replaced the timing belt and water pump with new units. This service will save the new American owner some time and money, and adds some peace of mind when heading out on your first road trip. When the timing belt service is performed, we always flush the coolant and install a new thermostat while we’re in there. We buttoned things up with a brand new radiator, and this I-6 was ready for its first road test. The RB runs tip-top with NEO VVL technology and pulls hard to redline. It’s connected to a five-speed manual gearbox. Shifts are smooth and communicative, and power is hammered directly to the rear wheels. The suspension was also refreshed stateside, with brand new Fortune Auto coilovers, new front caster arm bushings. We also refreshed the power steering system with a fresh rack rebuild, complete with new inner and outer tie rods and new boots. The Enkei alloys are clad in brand new tires too. The new rubber will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and quell road noise a fair bit, and of course, we performed an alignment. Turn key and ready to rock, this sedan is the real deal!
