Smart buyer checklist

Treat this as two groups. Required items protect you from payment loss and fraud — if a seller resists any of them, walk away. Ideal items help you assess the car's condition; when one is missing, factor it into your risk and your offer rather than treating it as automatic fraud.

Requiredfraud and payment-loss prevention

  • Confirm title status. Clean, salvage, rebuilt, or no title — and the title's jurisdiction — should be clear before you wire.
  • Confirm the car is importable to your location. That's your homework, not the seller's; if the import path is unclear, step back and verify before paying.
  • Read the bill of sale before you wire. "As-is" with no warranty is normal; anything that removes inspection or payment protections is a red flag.
  • Use a third-party escrow service; never wire to a personal account. For dealer sales, a wire to the business account named on the invoice is normal; for private-party sales, use escrow.

Idealvehicle-condition diligence; factor missing items into risk and price

  • Ask for the export certificate. If the car was exported from Japan recently, the deregistration document can help confirm provenance and timing. If unavailable: certificates for older imports are often filed away, so absence is a risk signal, not automatic fraud.
  • Ask for underbody, engine bay, and rear-quarter photos. Those areas reveal rust and repair work that hero shots can hide.If unavailable: the car may still be in transit or storage; review existing media and ask for fresh shots once it's accessible.
  • Consider a third-party pre-purchase inspection (PPI). A specialist inspection can catch issues that change the price. If unavailable: a PPI is often not feasible while the car is still overseas, so price the added uncertainty instead of treating it as proof of fraud.

Edition 4WD is 49,602. That reading of 49,602 came to us without a unit attached, and we have left it exactly as found. Recorded equipment covers air conditioning and power steering. The engine is recorded as the 3G83 fuel-injected 660cc 3-cylinder. Mitsubishi's 3G83 is the workhorse three that powered the Minicab through most of its life, and it was tuned for pulling rather than for peak output. This Minicab Special Edition 4WD is fitted with a manual gearbox. Listed drivetrain equipment includes selectable 2WD / 4WD high / 4WD low. The engine is recorded as the 3G83, a Mitsubishi design from the company's own kei engine range. The later Minicab looks semi-cab-over because Mitsubishi pushed the front axle forward for a crush zone, but the engine still sits under the driver's seat, so structurally it remained a cab-over. By 2000 the Minicab had been in production for thirty years, and the design had long since stopped needing to prove itself. Plenty of buyers keep a Minicab Special Edition 4WD looking exactly as it arrived; this one is Passo White and presented as we received it. A 2000 build date puts this one well past the 25-year federal import threshold. The asking price is $13,900.

Asking-price context

JDMBUYSELL comparison data for this Mitsubishi Minicab; the basis line states the exact pool used.

Figures are shown in your selected display currency, and fall back to USD when live rates are unavailable. Active asking-price pools use current active listings, not verified sale prices or an appraisal. For sold pools: sale price when reported; otherwise, the listing’s last asking price. Samples of fewer than 5 comparable listings are not shown. Lighter shading means fewer examples, not higher precision. Source: JDMBUYSELL listing data.
