Description

The J95 Prado blends size, functionality, capability, and refinement as well as any JDM SUV. The J95 Prado blends size, functionality, capability, and refinement as well as any JDM SUV. Based on our domestic 4Runner, parts and upgrades can be had on the cheap, and the extra cabin space and eight-seat capacity are handy when you live life on the go. This 2001 TX Limited is a lovely example of a Landy, and is finished in a classic White Pearl over Crystal Silver (K72). It is set off by a set of Bridgestone Berg CV696 alloys, an OEM bash bar, and some subtle OEM rainguards. Aside from a few light

dings, chips, and scuffs, the body is in good shape, and this 4×4 is fresh off a recent service. Powered by the same reliable 3RZ-FE engine sold here in the American 4Runners and Tacomas, servicing is easy as pie. With only 77k verified and documented miles on the clock, this terrific Toyota is barely broken in! Perfect for active families, off-roading enthusiasts, and adventurous types, this Japanese Classic would make for a dependable daily driver or wicked weekend warrior. Safe, trustworthy, and determined, this righteous rig is a killer overall value and is turnkey and ready to rock! The cabin is in above-average shape and includes some decent equipment. Access inside is made more seamless thanks to the keyless entry system. Once in the cockpit, pilots of all sizes can find the ideal seating position courtesy of a tilt-adjustable steering column and an optional OEM armrest extension. To make daily use more enjoyable, power folding mirrors, electric locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion. If you want additional natural ventilation, the rear quarter glass pops outward to supplement airflow. Ice cold A/C and piping hot heat can be accessed through a simple-to-use auto climate control system. If you live in a cold climate, this Prado was also optioned with the desirable rear seat heating system upgrade. Above the climate controls, optional OEM audio fills the cabin with tunes to complement your road trip. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and dual SRS airbags are standard equipment. Long hauls can be had in comfort, as the seats are highly supportive. The gray cloth is also soft to the touch and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The matching material can be found in the door cards, which are in good nick. The middle row can tumble and slide forward and tumble to accommodate large cargo, and the rear jump seats can be securely stowed against the rear D-pillar. The headliner is in above-average shape, and the carpets have escaped major abuse over the past quarter-century. Overall, this is one of the nicest cabins we have seen in recent memory! The body on frame platform is a robust one, and these rigs are known for tackling some of nature’s toughest terrain. The engine is equally durable and is fresh off an oil and filter service. It churns to life courtesy of a new 12V battery and runs like a dream with its new mass airflow sensor. A proper tune up was in order as soon as it got on the lift. We replaced the engine air filter and installed a new set of spark plugs and wires. While we were in there, we added a new distributor cap and rotor button. To ensure the oil level stays on full, one of our trained techs replaced the weary old valve cover gasket with a new one and also installed a new distributor o-ring. The 3RZ is linked to a stout automatic gearbox that shifts properly. A full time 4WD system puts the power to the ground, and when you need added grip, a low range and center locking differential can be utilized. On pavement, the J95 gets up to highway speeds without breaking a sweat, and when you need to slow down, ABS and four-wheel disc brakes are standard equipment. To improve the pedal feel a brake fluid flush was performed. The suspension offers loads of ground clearance. It has been rehabbed with new rear shocks, rear upper control arms, front lower ball joints, and front lower control arms. Soft yet predictable, this Toyota soaks up the bumps with the best of them. We also sorted out the power steering system completely. The steering rack was rebuilt, new fluid exchanged, and new steering rack bushings and boots were installed. To dial in the proper alignment, we also replaced the inner and outer tie rods. It tracks straight as an arrow, and the fresh alignment should maximize the life on the brand new 31′′ Falken tires we mounted and balanced. The new rubber looks aggressive, reduces road noise, and should last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Retail-ready to drive off the lot, this composed Cruiser is one heck of a unit!
