Smart buyer checklist

Treat this as two groups. Required items protect you from payment loss and fraud — if a seller resists any of them, walk away. Ideal items help you assess the car's condition; when one is missing, factor it into your risk and your offer rather than treating it as automatic fraud.

Requiredfraud and payment-loss prevention

  • Confirm title status. Clean, salvage, rebuilt, or no title — and the title's jurisdiction — should be clear before you wire.
  • Confirm the car is importable to your location. That's your homework, not the seller's; if the import path is unclear, step back and verify before paying.
  • Read the bill of sale before you wire. "As-is" with no warranty is normal; anything that removes inspection or payment protections is a red flag.
  • Use a third-party escrow service; never wire to a personal account. For dealer sales, a wire to the business account named on the invoice is normal; for private-party sales, use escrow.

Idealvehicle-condition diligence; factor missing items into risk and price

  • Ask for the export certificate. If the car was exported from Japan recently, the deregistration document can help confirm provenance and timing. If unavailable: certificates for older imports are often filed away, so absence is a risk signal, not automatic fraud.
  • Ask for underbody, engine bay, and rear-quarter photos. Those areas reveal rust and repair work that hero shots can hide.If unavailable: the car may still be in transit or storage; review existing media and ask for fresh shots once it's accessible.
  • Consider a third-party pre-purchase inspection (PPI). A specialist inspection can catch issues that change the price. If unavailable: a PPI is often not feasible while the car is still overseas, so price the added uncertainty instead of treating it as proof of fraud.

A diesel, manual, two-door SUV is a real holy grail of a vehicle. It caters to the enthusiast, is functional enough to daily drive, and with turbodiesel power, this 2000 Prado RX is fun, frugal, and functional. Finished in a stately Millennium Silver (K73) this cruiser has clean cosmetics, and is easy on the eyes. The unique styling is accented by an OEM front bumper guard, factory…

rainguards, and a set of 16′′ BERG alloys. The aftermarket wheels are clad in brand new all-terrains, and despite this Prado’s small footprint, it still feels commanding to drive. Best of all, the 133k miles on the clock are verified/documented, and should help this lovely runabout retain value for years to come. Freshly serviced, and equipped with a bulletproof drivetrain we never got to experience in the states, this is a Japanese Classic that can last you a lifetime! This cabin is in good shape and offers abundant head, shoulder, and legroom. It also has plenty of power equipment, and some useful upgrades, like a more modern Pioneer single DIN headunit. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position. Daily use is aided by functional power folding mirrors, power locks, OEM keyless entry, and power windows. If you prefer more natural ventilation, the rear quarter glass pops outward to supplement airflow. The A/C and heat work as they should, and the automatic climate control is intuitive to operate. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and houses dual SRS airbags as standard equipment. The steering wheel is free of any excessive cracks or damage, and the remaining upholstery is in great shape, save for some staining on the headliner. The blue and gray cloth upholstery features subtle multicolored zigzags and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The carpet is in a similar condition, too. A factory field monitor is also handy in case you lose cell service. Save for a missing cupholder cover, and a missing ashtray, this driver-centered cockpit should please most every pilot! Sharing a frame with the 4Runner platform has its perks. Ownership is made infinitely easier, parts can be had on the cheap, but real enthusiasts know the 1KZ-TE turbodiesel under the hood is worth its weight in gold. Standard for 90 series models, this 3.0 sports a factory intercooler, which pushes out more ponies, and helps things run cooler at higher speeds. We fully serviced this truck in our shop too, starting with a new 12v battery that was installed by our trained technicians. From there, we performed an oil and filter service, and replaced the fuel filter to ensure your diesel entering the engine remains clean. We performed a fresh coolant flush, and also replaced the valve cover gasket to ensure you don’t lose a drop of necessary lubricant. This large-displacement four banger is easy to putt around, and reaches highway speeds swiftly. A 5-speed manual gearbox allows full control over the 1K’s broad torque curve, and benefits from a fresh clutch fluid exchange. To bolster the drivetrain, we also replaced the transfer case input and output seals. Both rear shocks were replaced to keep the suspension comfortable and safety compliant, and we replaced both front swaybar links for good measure. A set of new front lower control arms and ball joints were replaced to help this Prado ace its state safety inspection, and we refreshed the steering system with a full rebuild of the rack. The inner and outer tie rods were replaced to help us dial in a four wheel alignment, and the rack received new boots, bushings, and a fresh power steering fluid exchange. The ABS brakes benefit from a fluid flush, and with fresh 31′′ Falken rubber on all four corners, you’ll be ready to roll for tens of thousands of miles to come!

JDMBUYSELL comparison data for this Toyota Land Cruiser Prado; the basis line states the exact pool used.

Figures are shown in your selected display currency, and fall back to USD when live rates are unavailable.
