Description

This HDJ101 proves you can have diesel power and luxury refinement, in one bulletproof package. For years, diesel Land Cruisers were regarded in America as rough and tumble trucks for the true off-road die hard. That made enough sense, as the vast majority of what we received were 70 and 80 series options. This HDJ101 proves you can have diesel power and luxury refinement, in one bulletproof package. Our 2000 Land Cruiser VX Limited is a cherry example, finished in a one-off Galaxy Black, and accented by a swing-out factory spare tire arm, OEM rainguards, an optional rear hatch spoiler and Ico

n wheels. Save for a few chips, scuffs, and loss of gloss in the paint, the cosmetics are in good shape overall, and any enthusiast knows that the 89k miles on the ticker are worth their weight in gold. Clearly cared for in a prior life, this durable diesel is a Japanese Classic, and needs nothing except an eager new owner! The interior is versatile, and stylish too, thanks to upgraded Clazzio leather seat covers. They mask factory tan cloth upholstery, that’s still in good shape, with no major rips, stains, or holes. They complement the woodgrain dash trim nicely, and the factory vinyl is soft to the touch too. Unlike most vehicles of this vintage, the dash is tidy and hasn’t fallen victim to excessive sun damage. It also includes dual SRS airbags to keep your forward occupants safe, and both driver and passenger benefit from power seats with integrated heaters. The center stack features a slew of upgrades to improve accessbility. Upgraded Pioneer audio has Bluetooth functionality, and an adjacent automatic climate control system has options to command both front and rear zones in the cabin. Necessary for a year-round hauler, cold A/C and hot heat work like a charm, and in case you need to let in a fresh breeze, a power moonroof is available to funnel airflow into the cabin. Power windows also work as advertised, alongside power locks and electric folding side mirrors. The headliner is tidy, and the carpets are protected by plush OEM mats which do a swell job at trapping dirt and grime. The cargo area has a few scuffs and stains, which is to be expected from a sport utility vehicle, and if you can see past this, and some typical steering wheel wear, this should suit the next owner nicely. The 1HD-FTE under the hood is low mileage, and certified Toyota nuts know this 24v turbodiesel is the creme de la creme. We’ve done a bevy of service to this Cruiser to tackle the road ahead, starting with 2 new 12v batteries which were tossed in to aid ignition. An oil and filter service keeps the 4.2 chugging along nicely, and a new engine air filter and fuel filter were installed for a bit of a tune-up. For an engine that sounds akin to a school bus at idle, it’s surprising how refined it feels throughout the powerband. Power and torque are linear, and an automatic transmission sends everything to a dual-range transfercase. We replaced the rear output seal, and both seals on the brand new front CV axles to keep all lubricant internal. A center locking differential and low range are also easy to engage, for when you venture off the beaten path. OEM height adjustable suspension works like a charm and feels ahead of its time as you glide over larger road imperfections. Most importantly, we addressed the most common drivetrain issue on older trucks, by rebuilding the steering rack. New inner and outer tie rods were dropped in after the rebuild, and this Cruiser got a fresh four wheel alignment on our rack. ABS brakes help this behemoth slow down with ferocity, and the ICON alloys were wrapped in fresh Toyo rubber that’s stylish, and sure to keep you covered for tens of thousands of miles of comfortable cruising!
