with some of the brand’s most bulletproof offerings. Finished in a stately Millennium Silver/Graphite Gray (2FY), this 2000 HiAce is clean cosmetically, and save for a minor scuff on the front bumper and a few rock chips, this hauler was clearly well cared for in a prior life. Set off by OEM rainguards, a factory rear spoiler, and tasteful refinished Bridgestone NR595 alloys, the aesthetics are clean overall, and the 71k miles on the clock are verified and documented to boot. Ideal to shuttle the kids to school, this van has been comprehensively serviced and features a legendary 4WD system to get you off the beaten path if needed. As the market shifts away from the conventional and modern, and more towards the classic and eccentric, this reliable and safe hauler makes for a textbook Japanese Classic! Pop open the massive dual sliding doors and you’ll find a cabin that’s safe, spacious, refined, and modern too! Finished in a plush tan cloth, the interior appears tidy, and the upholstery has miraculously resisted any serious rips, stains, or tears over the years. This is likely due to the rare and desirable OEM lace seat covers. Dual SRS airbags keep things safe up front for the driver and passenger and add some peace of mind. Functional sonar parking sensors are helpful, too. Aiding daily use, power windows, locks, and electric folding side mirrors work like a charm, and a massive power moonroof is mounted centrally to supplement the cabin with a cool breeze. The front sunroof also tilts up manually, and for a more controlled climate, the driver can cycle cold A/C and hot heat into both front and rear zones. Adjacent to the HVAC, a factory optional head unit pumps out the tunes. The sound quality isn’t half bad for its age, either! The driver can utilize a power-tilt steering column and power seat adjustment to get comfortable, and the middle and rear benches are versatile, too. The middle row can swivel 180 degrees to face the rear, and any unused seating can fold flat into a table or travel tray. Save for some light stains on the carpet and headliner, this Grand Hiace’s cabin should satisfy most anyone, and a ton of factory literature was retained, including the original owner’s manual and maintenance booklet! Toyota enthusiasts listen closely, because this is where things get good. This van is powered by the 5VZ-FE V6. This 3.4l propels 4Runner and Tacoma models stateside, and has been known to tack on the miles without breaking a sweat. Perfect for areas with unpredictable weather and rough terrain, this van is fresh off a recent service, where we kicked things off with a new 12V battery to churn things to life. A new engine air filter and fuel filter were also installed, for good measure. To keep this 3.4L topped up on oil we replaced the valve cover gaskets and half moon seals, and topped everything off with a fresh oil and filter service. All new spark plugs and wires were installed across the board, and we chucked everything back together with new accessory belts to keep things running reliably. The six-cylinder is linked to an automatic gearbox that suits the engine powerband nicely. The transmission is fresh off a fluid flush, and sends power straight to a responsive full-time 4WD system. The suspension is comfortable and confident, and benefits from new front shocks. To keep things safe and compliant, we also replaced the front lower control arm bushings and lower ball joints. New front swaybar links were installed, too! The power steering is light and on point, and the ABS brakes benefit from a fresh fluid flush, which helps this hauler come to a screeching halt. The long wheelbase pays dividends on the highway, and this platform feels more stable on the freeway than a cabover HiAce or Delica. To complete the shop work, we installed new Toyo tires on all four corners. The aesthetic of the tires matches the van nicely, and most importantly, they will provide tens of thousands of miles of grip to come!
