Smart buyer checklist

Treat this as two groups. Required items protect you from payment loss and fraud — if a seller resists any of them, walk away. Ideal items help you assess the car's condition; when one is missing, factor it into your risk and your offer rather than treating it as automatic fraud.

Requiredfraud and payment-loss prevention

  • Confirm title status. Clean, salvage, rebuilt, or no title — and the title's jurisdiction — should be clear before you wire.
  • Confirm the car is importable to your location. That's your homework, not the seller's; if the import path is unclear, step back and verify before paying.
  • Read the bill of sale before you wire. "As-is" with no warranty is normal; anything that removes inspection or payment protections is a red flag.
  • Use a third-party escrow service; never wire to a personal account. For dealer sales, a wire to the business account named on the invoice is normal; for private-party sales, use escrow.

Idealvehicle-condition diligence; factor missing items into risk and price

  • Ask for the export certificate. If the car was exported from Japan recently, the deregistration document can help confirm provenance and timing. If unavailable: certificates for older imports are often filed away, so absence is a risk signal, not automatic fraud.
  • Ask for underbody, engine bay, and rear-quarter photos. Those areas reveal rust and repair work that hero shots can hide.If unavailable: the car may still be in transit or storage; review existing media and ask for fresh shots once it's accessible.
  • Consider a third-party pre-purchase inspection (PPI). A specialist inspection can catch issues that change the price. If unavailable: a PPI is often not feasible while the car is still overseas, so price the added uncertainty instead of treating it as proof of fraud.

Description

Not everyone needs a race car, and this manual, rear-drive coupe is an ideal candidate for a daily driver. For all the praise the Nissan Skyline receives, models like this 1997 GT-S sometimes fly under the radar. Not everyone needs a race car, and this manual, rear-drive coupe is an ideal candidate for a daily driver. Frugal and reliable, this one-owner Sonic Silver (KR4) example includes plenty of power amenities, a spacious cabin, and updated angular styling to highlight its classic proportions. It’s also in above average condition for a vehicle that’s almost three decades old. Aside from a…

few light dings, chips, and scuffs, the paint is in good shape, and a subtle factory rear spoiler adorns this Series 2. Fresh off a recent service, this HR33 is offered with an impressive 49k verified and documented miles on the ticker. Balanced driving dynamics, shockingly low mileage, and the ability to wring out the RB make for a tasty combination, and this sporty and practical Japanese Classic is turn-key, ready to rock, and won’t break the bank! The R33’s cockpit was a big step up from the R32 it replaced. The cabin features more premium materials and loads more space. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and dual SRS airbags add some peace of mind for those up front. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. The digital climate control fills the cabin with piping hot heat or cool air conditioning depending on your preference. Below, the factory audio still works like a charm, just as it did when it rolled off the showroom floor. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column to find the ideal driving position. Power windows, locks, and mirrors all work in typical Nissan fashion and make daily driving more enjoyable. Rare to find in operable shape, the factory moonroof powers open at the push of a button, too. The patterned grey cloth seats are supportive and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The door cards are in good shape and the headliner and carpets have withstood the past twenty-five years without sustaining major abuse. Even the owner’s manuals, maintenance booklets, and factory carpet mats are included with the purchase of this little Skyline, and if you’re a purist looking for the absolute perfect cabin, this is the one. The Skyline is sporty yes, but it’s also refined. The long wheelbase distributes road imperfections well and the naturally aspirated RB20E is quick to respond and manages NVH nicely. Taking care of some beneficial preventative maintenance, our trained technicians made quick work of a comprehensive timing belt and water pump service on this 2.0. The SOHC mill received a new cam seal as well, and fresh coolant was flushed in to complement the fresh oil and filter serivce this Skyline already received here. A new 12v battery was tossed in to aid ignition, and we installed a new engine air filter, fuel filter, and six new spark plugs to properly combust your fuel. We didn’t just tend to the engine, however. To complete the reconditioning, we flushed in new clutch fluid to ensure that the 5-speed gearbox can make gear changes predictably. A new differential input seal was installed, to make sure you don’t lose a drop of lubricant out of the rear end. The factory suspension is comfortable, and benefits from new rear shocks and front tension arms we installed here at the shop. The ABS brakes are responsive, and we installed new calipers, pads, and brake rotors in the rear. The power steering is direct and on point, and the Bridgestone high-performance rubber is rewarding to drive. Fresh off a four wheel alignment, this Skyline stops, steers, and starts as it should, and frankly, it drives like a million bucks!
