Description

While the chassis has aged well, the fuel economy from the US-spec V8 has not. Fortunately, you can have the best of both worlds by considering this turbodiesel Japanese model. Toyota’s 100 series Land Cruiser needs little to no introduction. The sheer abundance of these rigs still on the road today is not a fluke. They really are bulletproof, and they’re comfortable enough to make daily driving not feel like a chore. While the chassis has aged well, the fuel economy from the US-spec V8 has not. odel. Our 1999 boasts top-tier fuel efficiency and has been well cared for in a prior life, showing just 134k verified and documented miles on the clock. It also looks snazzy, finished in Warm Silver Metallic (1B1), and set off by 16′′ Adela wheels, an OEM optional grille, LED tail lamps, and factory rainguards. The cosmetics are in above-average shape, save for a few expected dents and dings, and new 33′′ Falken all-terrain tires give this Cruiser a menacing off-road stance. With an abundance of torque, modern power equipment, and steadfast Toyota reliability, it’s a no-brainer that we’d deem this one a Japanese Classic! The cabin is cavernous, and equipped well to withstand daily driving demands in the 21st century. It’s wide, with plenty of head and legroom, and perfectly primed for utilitarian use. In above-average shape, this example is also remarkably well kept. The dash is trimmed in a soft-touch tan vinyl, which has held up well over the years. Dual SRS airbags are standard, as is ABS, for those who may be safety-conscious. The center stack includes a touchscreen climate control system and upgraded BOSS audio. The A/C blows cold, and the heat gets the cabin nice and toasty in both front and rear zones. Bluetooth is on hand as well and supplements the turbodiesel soundtrack nicely. The seats are trimmed in a plush tan cloth and are in above-average shape. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears, and the middle row can tumble forward to expand the cargo hold in the rear. The driver gains access to an adjustable steering column and power-adjustable lumbar support to get comfortable behind the leather-wrapped wheel. Power windows, locks, and power-folding mirrors all operate in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. The headliner is in good shape, as are the carpets, and the door cards match the upholstery and have resisted major wear and tear. To protect your investment, the factory carpet mats are on hand, and overall, this example should please even the most discerning enthusiast. Under the hood lies one of Toyota’s best designed truck engines. The 1HD-FTE was freshly reworked for the 100 series chassis, and the end result is a potent, intercooled turbodiesel that has the driving dynamics of a luxury SUV. Fresh off a recent service, our trained technicians have given this 4.2l a once-over, and two new 12v batteries were installed to aid ignition. A new engine air filter and fuel filter provide a bit of a tune up, and a new thermostat keeps temperatures in check. All new accessory belts keep things running tip-top, and it drives like a dream. This turbodiesel is chock full of torque, and power is fed straight to an automatic gearbox that makes the most of the diesel’s grunt. We resealed the transmission pan to keep all fluid internal, and we greased the driveshafts for good measure. For true off-road diehards, a center locking differential is on hand, as well as 4WD low if you get stuck. The suspension rides like a cloud, and benefits from new front swaybar bushings and front shocks. The power steering is direct, after a fresh alignment, and the ABS brakes bite down with ferocity. The aftermarket alloys give the vehicle an OEM-plus appearance, and we clad them in fresh 33′′ Falken all-terrains. The new tires look brilliant against the timeless bodywork, and most importantly, they’ll last for tens of thousands of miles of mixed-use driving!
