Description

With room for eight and FullTime 4WD, these rigs make for rugged and reliable daily drivers and are capable enough to overland with the best of them. It’s taken a few years, but the American market has become wise to just how good the 90 Series Land Cruiser is. This 1997 is an off-roader’s dream, with its lifted Rancho suspension, Safari snorkel, OEM bash bar, oversized fog lamps, OEM rainguards, and refinished factory 16′′ alloys shod in aggressive new 33′′ Falken rubber. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, the classic Desert Dune Metallic (1A5) paint shows well for this rig’s ag

e, and the bedlined lower section can handle loads of abuse. Best of all, this terrific Toyota is offered with a mere 108k verified and documented miles on the clock, which is barely broken in for the intercooled turbodiesel that provides propulsion. With room for eight and FullTime 4WD, these rigs make for rugged and reliable daily drivers and are capable enough to overland with the best of them. Determined, efficient, and powerful, this TX model is an overperformer in every facet, and we don’t expect it will last long! The cabin is expansive and filled with abundant electric amenities and a number of standard safety systems. The driver can find the ideal driving position thanks to a standard adjustable steering column. The amount of head and shoulder room is impressive, and dual front SRS airbags are standard and on hand for those riding up front. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and mounted in the center is a trick looking OEM Field Monitor. It displays information about the outside conditions should you lose cell service, and it adds to the rugged aesthetic. Below, a brand new USDM BOSS head unit has been installed. It happily pipes tunes into the cabin to supplement your commute, and this unit also includes Bluetooth hands-free tech so that the driver’s eyes can stay on the road. Power windows, door locks, and electric mirrors all work in typical Toyota fashion, aside from the driver’s side mirror power fold function. The headliner, door card,s and carpet lack any major damage, and aside from some light UV damage to the Field Monitor screen, it’s hard to complain about the cockpit. Even the OEM owners’ manuals are on hand for the American buyer to enjoy. This body-on-frame beast can withstand rough terrain and lots of abuse, and yet it still seems eager to perform. The intercooled 1KZ-TE under the hood is a gem, known for its prodigious low-end grunt and longevity. Fresh off an oil and filter service, we have installed two new 12V batteries so the 3.0L would promptly churn to life, and a new fuel filter was installed, as we do in every diesel-powered vehicle we import. New accessory belts keep the electronics properly powered, and the 1K is linked to a stout automatic gearbox. It shifts just as it should and sends power to both axles through a Full-Time 4WD system. For trail use and beach trips, a low-range and center locker can be deployed to keep momentum trudging forward. It gets up to highway merging speeds easily, and high-speed cruising is effortless. It also slows down with confidence thanks to its standard ABS brakes. The Rancho suspension is soft and supple and provides a lot of ground clearance. The long wheelbase makes for a competent and comfortable highway drive. New 33′′ Falken All-Terrain tires were mounted and balanced at each corner. The new rubber looks mean, reduces road noise, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
