A timeless design, this Prado is a Japanese Classic to its core. An SUV that sets itself apart from the crowd, this terrific Toyota does it all! The 70 Series defines staying power. In a time where the latest craze dominates the automotive landscape, this model soldiers on, still being produced after a staggering four decades. This 1996 is a special truck, finished in a rare Red Mica over Flaxen Mica Metallic (25Z). atop a rough and tumble body on frame chassis, this turbodiesel 4×4 is fresh off a recent service and offered with a mere 139k verified and documented miles on the clock. Handsome, reliable, and easy to service, this lifted seven-seater would make for an ideal year-round daily driver, dedicated down and dirty trail truck, or a unique weekend cruiser. A timeless design, this Prado is a Japanese Classic to its core. An SUV that sets itself apart from the crowd, this terrific Toyota does it all! The cabin is expansive, and this long and tall truck has loads of interior space for people, pets, and cargo. The tall ride height and skinny A-pillars lend themselves to premium outward visibility. The lack of blind spots makes lane changes and parking stress-free. Unlike most every J78, this one lacks a cracked dashboard, which is an uncommon sight! The pilot can find the ideal driving position thanks to a tilt-adjustable steering column and a power-adjustable lumbar support. Daily use is improved with functional power locks, windows, and mirrors. The center stack looks more modern thanks to a Bluetooth-equipped Carrozzeria stereo. It sounds decent and supplements your commute with some tunes! Located below the climate control system, which pumps in cool A/C and piping hot heat in case you live in a more seasonal climate. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a massive optional power moonroof can tilt and retract. Additionally, the rear quarter glass pops outward for even more of a breeze. The headliner and carpets are in good shape, and the tan upholstery lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The door cards are trimmed in the same material and are in above-average condition. Aside from some light piling on the cloth upholstery and it’s really hard to nitpick this rig, and it was obviously cared for in a life overseas. Under the skin, this truck is robust yet simple. The same can be said for the 1KZ-TE engine, which is fresh off an oil and filter service. Two new 12v batteries aid ignition, and will stay charged thanks to a new alternator and accessory belts. A fresh fuel filter was chucked in to ensure unwanted contaminants stay out of the 3.0L and we addressed a few pesky oil leaks. A new valve cover gasket was installed by one of our trained techs, and we also replaced the half-moon seal. The 1K pulls hard to redline and produces gobs of low-end grunt. The automatic gearbox shifts as it should and is mated to a selective transfercase. A new transfercase front output seal keeps the 4WD on the up and up and this rig was converted to manual lockers in Japan. It also has a low range, which can be engaged for a beach outing or trail drive. We refreshed the lifted suspension heavily, with brand new shocks installed here in our shop. We replaced the rear swaybar link bushings and rear trailing arm bushings, and she rides right as rain now. The long wheelbase distributes bumps well at higher speeds, and slowing down is no issue at all. New rear brake pads replaced the old worn ones, and this truck now brakes with confidence. The power steering is light and on point, thanks to a fresh alignment. The new 33′′ Falken rubber looks aggressive and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and look mean, matching the tough guy aesthetic. Turn key and ready to roll, this truck stands tall above the crowd!
