nd it drives like a dream. Ready for an overland vacation, daily driving, or a weekend at the lake, this Japanese Classic 4x4 is affordable, reliable, and capable, too! The cabin is spacious and nicely equipped. Rest assured, daily driving will be stress-free as the Landy includes power windows, locks, and mirrors. They all work, aside from the power folding function of the side mirrors being inoperable. A power-adjustable lumbar and adjustable steering column allows the driver to find the ideal driving position. A CoolBox center console keeps libations cold and the automatic climate control pumps heat and A/C through the cabin when called upon. For natural ventilation, an optional OEM power moonroof can tilt and retract and lets in loads of natural light to make the cabin feel larger. The seats are in above-average nick and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The matching Alcantara material can be found in the door cards, and it looks good too. The headliner and carpets are in good nick, and aside from lacking audio and a small dash crack by the gauge cluster hood, this Toyota is in good shape, and leaves little to be desired. The 1HD-T under the hood is one of Toyota's best turbo diesel designs. The 4.2L is fresh off an oil and filter service and churns to life care of two new 12v batteries. We installed a new alternator to keep all of the electronics properly powered and to keep the straight six running like a champ, a new engine air filter and fuel filter were installed. The six-pot is naturally low vibration and sounds great thanks to a new muffler. The powertrain is bolstered by a new transmission pan gasket and new valve cover gasket. The 1HD-T pulls hard to redline, and while the miles are unknown/unverified, it feels healthy as a horse. The automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels through a full-time 4WD system. The t-case front output seal was repaired while it was on the lift. Desirable to the off-road die-hards, this triple-locked version also has a low-range 4WD for trips made off the beaten path. We did want to note that the rear locker doesn't engage, but the front one does. When on the tarmac the 80 is civil and at highway speeds it's fairly comfortable. The soft suspension distributes bumps evenly and new panhard bar bushings replace the cracked old ones. We refreshed the power steering system by rebuilding the pump assembly and we also installed a brand new steering stabilizer. New front and rear swaybar bushings were installed, too. This Toyota goes right where you point it thanks to a fresh alignment. It stops confidently as well, with new brake pads and hoses up front. Grip is handled by all-terrain Yokohama tires mounted at each corner. The new rubber quiets down the road noise and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
