  • Suzuki's history sheet calls the 1995 change a minor change, not a new generation.
  • Total production is disputed: 26,583 (Suzuki Japan) or 28,010 (Suzuki New Zealand), with no split by chassis.
  • A Japanese specialist reports rust at the floor behind the seats, the sill seams and the engine-bay inner fenders.

Identification

Chassis-code reference

Generation names are broad families. The factory chassis codes below identify the variants represented in JDMBUYSELL's current Suzuki Cappuccino guide data.

EA11R (657cc F6A turbo; 1991–1995)
Chassis code: EA11R
EA21R (658cc K6A turbo)
Chassis code: EA21R

Confirm the complete code on the vehicle's frame or VIN plate; drivetrain, body, and market variants can use different prefixes within one generation family.

Market

Differences between JDM & USDM

The EA11R page uses Suzuki's Japanese factory figures for the representative CAXF: PS net, kgf·m and weight. Official exports existed. Suzuki's history sheet says early cars were sold in Britain and Germany, Hagerty counts 1,110 UK imports plus 72 registered elsewhere in Europe, and Suzuki New Zealand says 33 cars went to its distributor, without a chassis breakdown. UK cars were red or silver and needed 23 adaptations. A car's own build date, not the model's launch date, decides its US import age.

Technical specifications

F6A figures use Suzuki's Japanese factory ratings in PS net and kgf·m. The K6A power figure comes from Suzuki's history sheet. Newton-metre values are our conversion.

The buyer's read

Start with the series: the EA11R carries the F6A engine and the EA21R carries the K6A. Whichever you choose, ask for the car's build date, check the floor, sills and inner fenders for rust, and confirm the rules for the place where the car will be registered.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many Cappuccino generations are there?
Two series. The EA11R went on sale in Japan on 1 November 1991. Suzuki fitted the K6A engine from May 1995 (the EA21R) and its history sheet calls that update a minor change, not a new generation.
Did the Cappuccino come with an automatic?
Suzuki's heritage page says a three-speed automatic was added with the 1995 update. Suzuki's factory sheet for the 1991 launch car lists a five-speed manual.
How many Cappuccinos were built?
The sources disagree. Suzuki Japan's history sheet gives 26,583 for the whole model and Suzuki New Zealand says 28,010. Neither splits the total by chassis, market or gearbox, so no per-series figure is published here.
Was the Cappuccino sold outside Japan?
Yes, in small numbers. Suzuki's history sheet says early cars were sold in Britain and Germany. Hagerty reports 1,110 cars imported to the UK and 72 more registered elsewhere in Europe, and Suzuki New Zealand says 33 cars were sent to its distributor.
Can I import a Cappuccino to the US or Canada?
The US age rule is 25 years from each car's own date of manufacture (49 CFR 591.5(i)), so judge a car by its build date, not its launch date or model year. EPA expects the original-design engine or an EPA-certified replacement, and state registration rules vary. Canada counts 15 years from the month and year of manufacture.
