Smart buyer checklist

Treat this as two groups. Required items protect you from payment loss and fraud — if a seller resists any of them, walk away. Ideal items help you assess the car's condition; when one is missing, factor it into your risk and your offer rather than treating it as automatic fraud.

Requiredfraud and payment-loss prevention

  • Confirm title status. Clean, salvage, rebuilt, or no title — and the title's jurisdiction — should be clear before you wire.
  • Confirm the car is importable to your location. That's your homework, not the seller's; if the import path is unclear, step back and verify before paying.
  • Read the bill of sale before you wire. "As-is" with no warranty is normal; anything that removes inspection or payment protections is a red flag.
  • Use a third-party escrow service; never wire to a personal account. For dealer sales, a wire to the business account named on the invoice is normal; for private-party sales, use escrow.

Idealvehicle-condition diligence; factor missing items into risk and price

  • Ask for the export certificate. If the car was exported from Japan recently, the deregistration document can help confirm provenance and timing. If unavailable: certificates for older imports are often filed away, so absence is a risk signal, not automatic fraud.
  • Ask for underbody, engine bay, and rear-quarter photos. Those areas reveal rust and repair work that hero shots can hide.If unavailable: the car may still be in transit or storage; review existing media and ask for fresh shots once it's accessible.
  • Consider a third-party pre-purchase inspection (PPI). A specialist inspection can catch issues that change the price. If unavailable: a PPI is often not feasible while the car is still overseas, so price the added uncertainty instead of treating it as proof of fraud.

decades, making it one of the older continuously-built kei trucks. Mitsubishi ended in-house Minicab production in 2014; the truck that replaced it is a rebadged Suzuki, so every Mitsubishi-built Minicab is now a closed population. Four-wheel-drive Minicabs were specified for exactly the conditions this one was built for wet fields, gravel tracks and loading yards. The later Minicab looks semi-cab-over because Mitsubishi pushed the front axle forward for a crush zone, but the engine still sits under the driver's seat, so structurally it remained a cab-over. It runs a 660cc engine. The 660cc engine drives through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Four-wheel drive on a truck this light matters less for speed than for not getting stuck: there is very little weight pressing the tyres into wet ground. A 1999 Minicab 4WD is old enough to be simple and new enough to be usable, which is most of why this generation gets exported rather than scrapped. Built in 1999, this Minicab 4WD is 27 years old and clears the 25-year threshold at which imported vehicles are exempt from US federal motor vehicle safety standards conformity. Price on this one is $8,900.

Asking-price context

JDMBUYSELL comparison data for this Mitsubishi Minicab; the basis line states the exact pool used.

Figures are shown in your selected display currency, and fall back to USD when live rates are unavailable. Active asking-price pools use current active listings, not verified sale prices or an appraisal. For sold pools: sale price when reported; otherwise, the listing’s last asking price. Samples of fewer than 5 comparable listings are not shown. Lighter shading means fewer examples, not higher precision. Source: JDMBUYSELL listing data.
