Smart buyer checklist

Treat this as two groups. Required items protect you from payment loss and fraud — if a seller resists any of them, walk away. Ideal items help you assess the car's condition; when one is missing, factor it into your risk and your offer rather than treating it as automatic fraud.

Required fraud and payment-loss prevention

  • Confirm title status. Clean, salvage, rebuilt, or no title — and the title's jurisdiction — should be clear before you wire.
  • Confirm the car is importable to your location. That's your homework, not the seller's; if the import path is unclear, step back and verify before paying.
  • Read the bill of sale before you wire. "As-is" with no warranty is normal; anything that removes inspection or payment protections is a red flag.
  • Use a third-party escrow service; never wire to a personal account. For dealer sales, a wire to the business account named on the invoice is normal; for private-party sales, use escrow.

Ideal vehicle-condition diligence; factor missing items into risk and price

  • Ask for the export certificate. If the car was exported from Japan recently, the deregistration document can help confirm provenance and timing. If unavailable: certificates for older imports are often filed away, so absence is a risk signal, not automatic fraud.
  • Ask for underbody, engine bay, and rear-quarter photos. Those areas reveal rust and repair work that hero shots can hide.If unavailable: the car may still be in transit or storage; review existing media and ask for fresh shots once it's accessible.
  • Consider a third-party pre-purchase inspection (PPI). A specialist inspection can catch issues that change the price. If unavailable: a PPI is often not feasible while the car is still overseas, so price the added uncertainty instead of treating it as proof of fraud.

The cosmetic condition is not perfect. What matters on a work vehicle has been addressed: the steering, the belt drive, the fuel delivery, the exhaust, and the A/C. It runs smooth and drives straight. No rust anywhere on the body or underneath. The VX Special is the better-equipped grade of the fifth-generation Minicab van, and this one is the high roof body, which adds roughly 5 inches of interior height over the standard roof. That is the difference between loading boxes and stacking them. Rear swing-out doors open wide for loading from the back, and the tinted windows keep the cargo area out of sight. The engine is the 3G83, a 660cc three-cylinder SOHC unit fed by a carburetor. No fuel injection computer, no sensors to chase. If something needs adjusting, it can be adjusted with hand tools. 4WD and a 5-speed manual put the power down on wet grass, gravel, and job site dirt. Power steering. Cold A/C. Finished in a soft green that you do not see often on kei vans. Most of them left the factory white. Gray interior. Florida titled. Comes with one key. CarPlay is not installed, but we can install it for you before delivery. Mileage: 57,816 miles (93,045 km). Interesting Facts The U42V shares its platform with the Mitsubishi Bravo, the passenger-focused version of the same van sold with more seating and interior trim. Many body and mechanical parts interchange between the two. This is one of the last carbureted Minicabs. Mitsubishi moved the 3G83 to ECI-Multi electronic fuel injection when the sixth-generation Minicab arrived in 1999, so the U42V marks the end of the carburetor era for the nameplate. The Minicab name dates back to 1966, making it one of the oldest continuously used kei vehicle nameplates in Japan, and it remains in production today. About Us Our team has worked with Japanese vehicles for over 25 years, first in Europe and Japan, now at JP-TRADE in Holiday, Florida. Mechanical preparation is done by Japanese mechanics at our prep station in Toyama, and we drive our cars before they reach a new owner. See our full process. If you made it this far, here is a little bonus for you. This engine family holds a world first. The 3G83 belongs to Mitsubishi’s 3G8 family. In 1989 its smaller sibling, the 3G81 in the Minica Dangan ZZ, became the first mass-production engine in the world with five valves per cylinder. A kei car got there before any supercar did.

Asking-price context

JDMBUYSELL comparison data for this Mitsubishi Minicab; the basis line states the exact pool used.

Figures are shown in your selected display currency, and fall back to USD when live rates are unavailable. Active asking-price pools use current active listings, not verified sale prices or an appraisal. For sold pools: sale price when reported; otherwise, the listing’s last asking price. Samples of fewer than 5 comparable listings are not shown. The sold trend leaves out periods with fewer than 5 reported sales. Source: JDMBUYSELL listing data.
