The Nissan of the 1990s was far more innovative than the brand we know today. ked the fire-breathing turbocharged V6 and much of the power equipment that this 1999 Y33 boasts. Finished in Phoenix Yellow (445), this Cima GT embodies the VIP aesthetic, with full Dolce Axa aero and refinished 19′′ Rays Victrix wheels. Save for a few minor scuffs and dings, the cosmetics are in good shape overall, and discerning enthusiasts should appreciate the 100k verified and documented miles that are on the clock. It’s hard to picture this vehicle being over 25 years old. It’s well-engineered, fun to drive, and easy to commute in, day in and day out. In other words, it’s a true Japanese Classic! The interior is a highlight of the Cima, and it is fashioned in a durable executive cloth that stands the test of time way better than its leather counterparts. It’s also packed full of functional power equipment and is primed and ready for daily duty here in the States. The chauffeur’s choice, power reclining rear seats are functional, and both driver and passenger benefit from electric buckets as well. To dial in additional comfort, the driver can tilt and telescope the steering column electronically. Safety-conscious occupants are coddled with dual front and side SRS airbags, and cabin comfort is a priority, with a unique digital automatic climate control system that allows front or rear passengers to choose between cold A/C, hot heat, fan speed, and direction. Integrated into the factory multifunction display is premium OEM audio, which sounds decent for its age. If you prefer to listen to the V6’s soundtrack from the aftermarket exhaust, all four windows power down automatically to let in some fresh air. Power locks and mirrors work too, and this Cima touts optional keyless entry. The upholstery is in good nick through and through. The seats show no notable rips, stains, or tears, and the headliner and carpet lack any major blemishes. Even the factory carpet mats are in good shape, and as an added bonus, an OEM optional power rear sunshade works like a charm and helps keep harsh rays from penetrating the rear of the cabin! For a Japanese import, it’s nice to see there’s a familiar Nissan VQ platform under the hood. Unlike our USDM examples, this 3.0 V6 is turbocharged and packs a real punch! Better yet, our trained technicians have given this Cima a full service, and a new 12v battery was installed here, so it cranks over the first time, every time. From there, we performed a fresh oil and filter service before its first road test. The VQ30DET is a true powerhouse; it’s civil when cruising about town but opens the floodgates for more power when you step on it, with a Blitz exhaust aiding auditory response. An automatic gearbox sends power rearward and benefits from a new gasket on the transmission pan. New aftermarket coilovers were installed all the way around to aid handling. They also work to eliminate any unwanted wheel gap between tire and fender, while still remaining compliant over larger road imperfections. We installed new front caster arms so it would pass its state safety inspection, and this Cima starts, steers, and stops as it should. The ABS brakes benefit from new front and rear brake pads, and new front rotors to boot. The multipiece alloys were wrapped in brand-new rubber, and to polish things off, a fresh alignment was performed so you can daily drive this beast, and take home the gold at a car show!
