Description

The Hilux Surf is the king of the midsize JDM SUVs. It's as reliable as they come, handsome looking, and highly capable. The Hilux Surf is the king of the midsize JDM SUVs. It’s as reliable as they come, handsome looking, and highly capable. This center-locked turbo diesel example is a real gem, and is finished in a lovely Lunar Rock (6X3). This five-seater is set off by a set of 16′′ refinished alloys, an aggressive OEM rear spoiler, OEM bash bar, and OEM spare tire swingarm. Aside from a few light imperfections, the paint is in good shape, and this 4×4 is fresh off a recent service. Boasting

a mere 64k verified and documented miles, this 30 year old rig is barely broken in. Ideal for adventurous types, families on the go, and those who like to overland, this Japanese Classic is unmatched. The cabin is ergonomic and well-equipped. For those who value safety, Toyota made dual SRS airbags and ABS brakes standard items in this third generation. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and the center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. In Japan, a Kenwood radio was installed and sounds great! Below the optional Automatic climate control system pumps in cold A/C and piping hot heat. Power folding mirrors, power locks, and power windows all work in typical Toyota fashion. Even the rear glass rolls down to supplement airflow. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support. The seats are in above-average shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The rear row split folds and also tumbles forward to create a flat loading floor. The door cards are in equally good shape and feature the same moon mist cloth. By the map lights, an OEM field monitor keeps occupants abreast of the outside conditions if cell service is limited. A rare power reverse mirror drops down from the spoiler with the press of a button, and can let the pilot know about parking obstacles hiding from view by the rear bumper. The headliner is in good nick, and aside from noting that the rear heater lines have been deleted, as well as a few light carpet stains, it’s hard to critique the cabin. It even includes the factory owner’s manual. The 1KZ-TE that powers this rig is a stud of an engine. It creates endless torque, is highly efficient, and easy to service. Fresh off an oil change, it springs to life with the twist of a key and has a new fuel filter installed. New accessory belts were installed, keeping all of the electronics properly powered. It sounds great thanks to a new axle-back exhaust, and it runs like a charm. To keep the oil level full, the valve cover gasket was replaced by one of our trained technicians. The four-banger is mated to a stout automatic gearbox. The selectable 4WD system has a center locker and low range, and if the driver wants to maximize acceleration, the Surf can drive the rear wheels alone. To keep the 4WD system running tip-top, we replaced the front and rear transfercase seals. It puts down loads of power to the ground and gets up to highway merging speeds with ease. The suspension is able to handle the rigors of daily use and abuse, and was rehabbed when this truck was on our lift. New rear upper control arms and front sway bar links were installed. We also completely rebuilt the power steering rack with new seals. We then flushed the system and added new rack bushings and boots for good measure. So future alignments can be dialed in seamlessly, we replaced the inner and outer tie rods, too. The ABS brakes feel confident and grip is handled by four new Falken tires. Freshly aligned, they will reduce road noise, look killer, and last for tens of thousands of miles to come.
