Description

Whether overlanding through the muck or shuttling the offspring to school, this peak performer is practical, stylish, and won't break the bank! Simple and tough SUVs are the ones that last, and this 1993 Hilux Surf proves that point. Utilizing a ladder chassis and a bulletproof turbodiesel engine, this rig is an off-roader’s dream, but is civil enough to be daily driven and enjoyed. Finished in a stunning Everest Green (6X7) this SSR-X is set off by a factory rear spoiler, chrome mirror caps and door handles, a desirable OEM spare tire swingarm and expensive powercoated 15′′ OZ Roulette wheels

. Aside from a few light imperfections, the body is in good shape, and this five-seater is fresh off a recent service. Having logged a mere 107k verified and documented miles, this terrific Toyota is barely broken in. Efficient, durable, and a blast to drive, this 4×4 is a certified Japanese Classic. Whether overlanding through the muck or shuttling the offspring to school, this peak performer is practical, stylish, and won’t break the bank! The cabin is simple, ergonomic and includes a few factory upgrades. The dashboard is in good shape and lacks any cracking or fading. Large pullout cup holders sit atop a simple to use climate control system. The A/C blows cold and the heat keeps the cabin warm during winter. If you prefer natural ventilation, the side and rear windows power down and a large factory moonroof can tilt and retract for an open air experience. The adjacent OEM audio works like a charm and supplements your daily commute with tunes. To make daily use more manageable, the driver benefits from a tilt adjustable steering column and power locks and power mirrors. All these items work in typical Toyota fashion. The upholstery is in good shape and lacks any major rips, stains or tears. The rear row can split fold and tumble forward to create a flat loading floor, and 4 way recline for optimum comfort. The door cards mirror this material, and are in good nick. That’s not to say the cabin is perfect, as there’s some yellowing on the plastics, a missing radio knob and dome light cover, and some minor steering wheel wear. Other than that, its hard to pick apart this classic truck inside! The simple, body on frame platform is robust and able to handle loads of abuse. The same can be said for the 1KZ-TE engine that’s fresh off a lot of great service here at our shop. It cranks to life care of two new 12V batteries and benefits from a new fuel filter and engine air filter. It sounds great with a new catback exhaust, and we performed a coolant flush so that proper thermal management was maintained. To keep all the lubricant internal to the four banger, we installed a new valve cover gasket and replaced the half moon seal while we were in there. The 1K feeds power through a stout automatic gearbox. New fluid helps it to shift seamlessly and power can be sent to the rear wheels or all four, thanks to a selectable transfer case. A low range can be engaged if you hit some soupy sand, or if a snowstorm blows your way. Power gets to the ground care of a new rear pinion seal, and keeps your driveway clean. We shored up the driveline with a number of improvements. New rear shocks deliver a refined ride and new front ball joints and a new front left axle were installed. The rear axle seals were replaced, as were the rear swaybar mount bushings and front sway bar links. A fresh alignment ties all the work together and will promote log tire life. New tie rods and power steering pump rebuild make the driving experience all the more enjoyable. The OZ wheels are wrapped in new 32′′ falkens all around. The new tires look mean, will last for a good long while to come and can handle all the ice, sand and snow you can throw at it!
