Known for its storied history of shuttling individuals about busy cities, keen enthusiasts know the Crown is quite the performance platform too! Toyota’s Crown is an enduring chassis. Known for its storied history of shuttling individuals about busy cities, keen enthusiasts know this sedan is quite the performance platform too! Our 1999 Crown Athlete V is turbocharged, rear wheel drive, and full of zest. The aesthetic remains reserved, for fans of sleeper sedans, and this Millennium Silver (1C0) Crown is set off by an OEM optional front lip, Celsior grille, factory chrome door handles, privacy

tint, and 18′′ CE28 style wheels. Aftermarket coilovers help the bronze alloys tuck nicely in the wheel wells, and add a fair bit of functionality to boot! Save for some imperfections in the paint, the cosmetics are far above average for a 26 year old vehicle, and we did want to note the strut towers have been modified and clearanced at some point in Japan, allowing you to fit larger wheels with ease! Best of all, the 114k miles on the clock are verified, documented, and do a lot to help this Crown retain its value. For a highway hauler, car-show standout, or even a performance-oriented daily driver, this Athlete V is a Toyota sedan like no other! Toyota knocked this interior design out of the park, plain and simple. It feels decidedly luxurious, with plush upholstery, seats akin to couch cushions, and a full slate of tech that feels decently modern. It’s also a safe place to cruise, with dual front and side SRS airbags, and power-adjustable seating accommodating passengers of all shapes and sizes. The driver can also make the most of a manually adjustable tilt and telescoping steering column to maximize comfort. Power windows, locks, and electronic folding side mirrors aid accessibility, and the biggest upgrade comes courtesy of an upgraded Pioneer headunit to bypass the dinosaur factory EMV touch screen. With Bluetooth functionality, you can pump tunes into the cabin with ease, and purists should fret not, as the factory climate controls are perfectly operable and integrated into the factory screen. In true Toyota fashion, cold A/C and hot heat work like a charm, and if you prefer natural ventilation, a power moonroof expands to let in a natural breeze. The rear bench is spacious, and the Crown’s lineage as a transporter really shows as you shuttle passengers to and fro in this drift taxi. The trunk is spacious too, and overall the interior materials are in above average condition, from the headliner to the carpets beneath which are protected by OEM mats. Turn key, fully functional, and ready to roll, this cabin keeps impressing, day in and day out, and we even held onto an optional OEM trunk mat and the original maintenance booklet and toolkit to preserve this Crown’s history! The 1JZ-GTE under the bonnet is one of Toyota’s best designs, and it only takes a quick drive to see why. This VVT-i equipped 2.5T is fresh off a recent service here, and is a delight to drive. It has oodles of low end torque to propel you off the line and the midrange you’d expect out of a proper turbocharged JZ. It cranks over with haste, too, care of a new 12v battery, and we performed a full oil and filter service to get you on track for future maintenance schedules. New valve cover gaskets were installed to keep that lubricant internal, and we installed a new engine air filter as a bit of a tune-up. This lovely 1J has no issues jetting up to and above highway speeds, and it’s packed with performance potential. A front mount intercooler, catback exhaust, and SARD high-flow cat squeeze out a few more ponies, and the automatic gearbox does a swell job at throwing that power to a Tomei Limited Slip differential, which benefits from new fluid and a reseal. Limited Racing suspension keeps the chassis planted to the ground and insulates it against road imperfections, and the handling is direct, thanks to new front caster arms and adjustable front upper control arms. The ABS brakes bite with confidence, and we wrapped the aftermarket alloys in brand new rubber and gave this Crown a custom alignment to make the most out of the more aggressive wheel and tire specs!
