Description

Backed by steadfast Toyota reliability and a responsive turbocharged 2.5l drivetrain, this touring sedan was a worldwide icon, and we can finally import this Japanese Classic for the US market to enjoy. Instead of doomsday prepping, Toyota was handling Y2k a bit differently, bolstering their lineup with killer vehicles that were modern, comfortable, and downright fun to drive, like this 1999 Crown Athlete V. rket to enjoy. Finished in Millennium Silver (1C0), this one-owner sedan is set off by factory rainguards and 17′′ BLEST wheels. Save for a few chips, dings, and loss of lustre, the paint is in good shape overall and this Crown hardly looks a day over 25. We also wanted to note a replacement of the left front fender from Japan, which does little to affect this sedan’s overall appeal. Better yet, the 74k miles on the clock are verified and documented, and this sedan boasts only one verified owner. New cars are overcomplicated, laden with useless features, and aren’t nearly as fun to drive, but this trusty Toyota would be a perfect companion for the discerning enthusiast! The interior is a highlight, and Toyota was at the top of their game when designing the JZS171. Packed with power amenities, useful switchgear, and top-tier materials, the cabin is a lovely place to be, trimmed in a plush grey cloth. Set off by blackwood accents, the materials are in above average shape overall and it’s clear the upholstery was well cared for in a prior life as it lacks any rips, stains, or tears. Safety conscious occupants will appreciate the inclusion of dual front and side SRS airbags, and the driver can dial in the ideal piloting position thanks to a power adjustable seat. The center stack frames an optional factory touchscreen and multi-disc CD changer to load up all your Y2k favorites. The controls for the HVAC are easy to navigate, and cold A/C or hot heat can be pumped in at a moments notice. At over two decades old, there is some discoloration on the unit which doesn’t hinder functionality. Even the trademark oscillating vents are in good working order, and an optional automatic air purifier is tucked into the rear parcel shelf. The rear seats are spacious, and the trunk has ample room for your provisions. Even the lace seat covers are still intact, and the OEM carpet mats are included with the sale to protect your new daily driver! The 1JZ-GTE under the hood is a popular powerplant with the performance crowd, but it feels right at home under the hood of this luxury sedan. It’s also fresh off loads of good service here at the shop, where our trained technicians took care of a new timing belt and water pump service to get you on track for the next 10 years or 100,000 kilometers. A new 12v battery aids ignition, and this 2.5T is fresh off an oil and filter service. We also addressed some additional preventative maintenance while we were in there installing new cam and crank seals, valve cover gaskets, and a reseal of the VVT-i gear. A new thermostat was dropped in to regulate thermal load, and with the maintenance performed this Crown drives like a dream in stock form. An automatic gearbox throws the power rearward, and the rear wheel drive layout is responsive and fun to drive overall. The stock suspension gobbles up road imperfections large and small, and we replaced both front caster arms for a bit of preventative maintenance on the drivetrain. The steering is light and direct, and the ABS brakes stop on command. The 17’s are wrapped in new tires. They enhance the Crown’s aesthetic appeal, and should last for tens of thousands of miles of comfortable cruising thanks to our fresh alignment!
