Description
Balanced, stylish, and rewarding to drive, this Japanese Classic is a bit atypical, but a classic nonetheless. A proper rear-drive roadster is a rarity these days, and this 1999 BMW Z3 is an all-time great sports car design. This Artic Silver (309) example features the same inline-four powerplant we received here in the States, so parts and service are a snap. Aside from a few light chips, dings, and scuffs the paint is in fine shape, and this convertible is set off properly by the OEM 15′′ Pepperpot wheels. Best of all, this recently serviced droptop is offered with only 21k verified and…

documented miles on the clock, which is a fraction of what you would find here in the US. Balanced, stylish, and rewarding to drive, this Japanese Classic is a bit atypical, but a classic nonetheless. The cabin is simple, snug, and includes some decent electric options. Dual SRS airbags are standard and the dashboard lacks any cracking or fading. The driver and passenger rest comfortably in electric adjustable leather and sport mesh seats, which lack any major rips, stains, or tears. Power windows, power locks, and power mirrors all work, making daily use more enjoyable. The M Sport steering wheel looks good, and the carpets and door cards have withstood the past 25 years without sustaining major abuse. Aside from a missing rear storage cubby lid, and some scratches atop the dash the cabin is in phenomenal shape. The OEM audio works like a charm and even the factory toolkit is still in place in the trunk! Under the hood sits BMW’s stalwart M44 engine. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 1.9L churns to life care of a new 12V battery. A new alternator keeps the electronics reliably powered, and we also replaced the engine air filter and fuel filter as part of this four-banger’s tune-up. To keep the fresh oil topped up, we replaced the weary old valve cover gasket with a new one. The four-cylinder sends power through an automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. It’s peppy from stop light to stop light and can cruise comfortably on the interstate. The 50/50 weight distribution aids handling, and the suspension can handle the rigors of daily use and abuse. The brakes feel confident and are bolstered by new front brake pads. The power steering is direct and provides plenty of feedback. Lastly, mounted and balanced four new all-season tires and quell road noise a fair amount. They will also provide all the grip needed for tens of thousands of miles to come. Turn key and ready to go, this BMW is the perfect ride for the Fall. It would make for an easy-to-service, affordable, and unique sports car and its gets more than its fair share of looks!
