Description

Blending premium materials, attractive styling, and reliable drivetrain options, the Y33 has a ton of staying power Want a vehicle that looks like a Bentley, drives like a Lexus, and has the maintenance costs of an old Nissan? Look no further than this 1996 Cedric GT. The Y33 platform was a huge leap for Nissan in the late 90’s, and it’s easy to see why these grand tourers have held up so well in the 21st century. Blending premium materials, attractive styling, and reliable drivetrain options, the Y33 has a ton of staying power, and ours looks the part in Cloud White (QM1). Set off by one piec

e factory rainguards, this sleek sedan sports just 83k verified and documented miles on the clock and is in above average shape overall. Save for a few minor nicks and dings, this Cedric looks dang good for being almost three decades old. Primed to turn heads at a local car meet or while you’re out cruising the strip, no Japanese Classic gets it done like the Y33, let alone at this affordable price point. Stylish, reliable, and comfortable for the long haul, this is one legendary sedan! The interior is in terrific shape, and is likely one of the cleanest examples we’ve seen in recent memory. It’s plenty stylish and is set off by grey cloth upholstery. Both driver and passenger benefit from power-adjustable seating up front, and dual SRS airbags are present to keep occupants safe. The driver can tilt the steering column at will to get comfortable, and the view over the dash is clean and unobstructed. The soft-touch vinyl cover shows no hairline cracks or fading from use. The center stack is set off by woodgrain trim and houses controls for the OEM audio and digital automatic climate control. The sound quality is decent for its age, and the layout for the HVAC is intuitive, piping in cold A/C and hot heat at a moment’s notice. If you prefer ventilation, controls for power windows are close by, and power locks and electric folding side mirrors aid accessibility for daily use. The rear bench is plenty spacious and comfortable if you have precious cargo to lug around. If not, there is more than enough storage space when you factor in the cavernous trunk. The headliner is tidy, and the carpets are protected by OEM mats that nicely complement the upholstery. The keyless entry works like a charm, aiding daily use, and even the owners’ manuals are included with the purchase of this lovely sedan. Believe it or not, we haven’t even reached the crown jewel of this Y chassis, which sneakily resides under the bonnet. The VQ30DET is a real powerhouse of a V6, as it’s turbocharged from the factory, yet shares the majority of its parts with other Nissan engineered products stateside. Ours is fresh off a bevy of good service, including and a fresh oil and filter change. It springs to life, and we installed a new intake air filter and fuel filter for a basic tune up. We also tended to a new rear main seal and oil pan gasket to ensure your lubricant stays internal. In fact, there’s not much to nitpick with this 3.0T aside from a minor valve cover seep. That being said, it gets up to highway speeds with aplomb, and the 4 speed automatic gearbox does a swell job at throwing power to the rear wheels. The suspension is in terrific shape and soaks up road imperfections nicely, and we replaced both rear toe arms to help this five-seater pass a Virginia state safety inspection. New inner and outer tie rods make the power steering easy to articulate, and a fresh alignment allows it to track straight as an arrow. New tires were mounted and balanced while it was on the lift. The new rubber quells road noise and delivers all the grip you will need for tens of thousands of miles to come. The ABS brakes feel confident and the power steering is light and easy to articulate. Turn key and ready to rock, this super saloon does just about everything well and is an incredible overall value.
