Description
Spacious, stylish, and tough, this Japanese Classic would make for a durable daily driver or wicked weekend playtoy. The 70 Series Land Cruiser won’t die! In fact, it’s still in production today, after four and a half decades! It’s capable, reliable, and you feel like a bona fide warlo rd when behind the wheel. This 1995 Prado is a sweet example of the chassis and is finished in Toyota’s classic Dark Emerald Green over Flaxen Mica Metallic (26Z). is in fine shape, and this terrific Toyota is fresh off a recent service. Boasting a mere 109k verified and documented miles on the clock, this baby is barely broken in. Spacious, stylish, and tough, this Japanese Classic would make for a durable daily driver or wicked weekend play toy. The cabin is spacious, offering seating for eight and loads of head and legroom. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and manually adjustable side bolsters to find the ideal piloting position. The center stack is close by and is comprised of a simple to use climate system and an upgraded JVC headunit. The former blows piping hot heat and cold A/C, and the latter funnels in the tunes with clarity. Power windows, power locks, and power mirrors all work in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. The seats are in good shape and upholstered in a soft blue and gray cloth. They lack any major rips, stains or tears. The middle row can tumble forward to create a larger cargo hold, and the rear jump seats can be stowed tidily against the d-pillar. The door cards, headliner and carers have withstood the past quarter century without sustaining major abuse, and aside from the typical dash cracks and a non-functioning power driver lumbar adjustment, it’s hard to nitpick this cabin. The body-on-frame platform is tough, just like the engine. Powering this rig is Toyota’s tried and true 1KZ-TE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L churns to life courtesy of a new 12v battery. A new boost filter was installed so that acceleration would remain uninterrupted and a new engine air filter and fuel filter were installed as part of our tune-up. The 3.0L is mated to a strong automatic gearbox. It shifts like a champ, and the driver can choose between sending the power to the rear axles or both. The hubs can be electronically locked, and there is also a low-range 4WD available should you head off the beaten path. We rehabbed the driveline with new axle seals to make sure the power gets to the ground. The Prado gets up to highway merging speeds without breaking a sweat and slows down with confidence thanks to standard disc brakes. The long wheelbase distributes bumps nicely, and the suspension is soft yet predictable. The steering is power-assisted, and this truck can be easily parked within the tight confines of the city. Grip comes from four new Falken tires that we mounted and balanced at each corner. Freshly aligned, it tracks straight as an arrow and is ready to rock.
