Description

Tough, collectible and designed with real off-road DNA, this Japanese Classic stands tall above the crowd. They don’t make ’em like they used to and this 1993 Prado EX is a great testament to the longevity of a good old-fashioned SUV. The robust body on frame platform and nearly bulletproof diesel are able to handle loads of abuse and keep on chugging. Fresh off a recent service, this enthusiast special is equipped with a manual gearbox, and boasts a respectable 195k verified and documented miles on the clock. Aside from some minor paint and body defects and a few dings, chips and scuffs assoc

iated with normal use, this one-off Broadway Black colored Landy is in good shape overall. Set off by a a 2″ lift and a refinished set of BERG alloys, this stellar looking rig would make for a decent daily driver, fun weekend cruiser, or inspired family hauler. Tough, collectible and designed with real off-road DNA, this Japanese Classic stands tall above the crowd. We must commend this Cruiser’s prior owner as the cabin is in above average condition for a 33 year old truck. The cockpit is spacious, logically laid out, and was clearly built to stand the test of time with premium materials and power amenities to make daily use a breeze. The optional suspension seats are trimmed in a suede-like cloth and have resisted any serious wear and tear outside of some expected pilling on the driver’s bucket. Even the dash is free of any typical hairline cracks, and the headliner is still taut against the roof! The center stack, while utilitarian in design, still features an easy to use climate control unit and functional OEM audio. As a winter cruiser, getting piping hot heat to flow throughout the cabin is easy, and cold A/C is on backup if you need it. All power windows work as advertised, as do the electric locks, mirrors, and a spacious power moonroof. The rear bench tumbles forward if you need extra cargo space, and three additional passengers can pile in in the back for seamless family hauling. As a whole, it’s hard to critique this cockpit, save for some torn seatback netting. All amenities are functional, easy to operate, and overall this cabin really impresses for being well loved in Japan. The body on frame chassis is tough and simple. Easy to work on and inexpensive to operate, the 1KZ-TE that powers this rig is a real gem. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L churns to life promptly care of a new 12v battery. We flushed out the old coolant to get you on track for future maintenance intervals, and installed a new A/C belt to keep things chilly in the cabin. Mated to a slick shifting manual gearbox, it’s easy to command full control of the 1KZ’s broad torque curve. The stick selects gears without a hitch or grind, and sends power straight to a selective 4WD system. In Japan, OEM manual lockers were added at some point to give you an edge when traversing loose surfaces, and we bolstered the drivetrain with a rear differential reseal and a front differential fluid service. We did want to note the optional rear locker no longer engages, and has been disconnected. The lifted suspension provides loads of ground clearance and can handle the use and abuse driving over our ruddy stateside tarmac. We installed new rear control arms, and after a fresh four wheel alignment the suspension feels comfortable and predictable. The brakes feel confident and the power steering is light and easy to articulate. We also installed new tie rods on the rear stabilizer bar to keep this Cruiser compliant at higher speeds. The multipiece alloys are wrapped in good Falken rubber at all four corners. The 33″ inch all terrains will last for tens of thousands of miles to come, and look mean as heck!
