Conceived during the 1990s retro-design craze, it was designed to emulate a classic British car or London taxi. Mitsubishi originally planned to build 1,000 units, but the heavily criticized exterior design---coupled with the 1997 Asian financial crisis---resulted in a massive sales flop.
