Description

R32 Skylines used to dominate our inventory, and even as the chassis approaches nearly 4 decades in production, models like this 1989 still feel delightfully modern. Don’t let the plethora of trucks and SUV’s fool you, the team here at Japanese Classics are still sports car enthusiasts to the core. R32 Skylines used to dominate our inventory, and even as the chassis approaches nearly 4 decades in production, models like this 1989 still feel delightfully modern. This GTS-t was one of Nissan’s best developments in the early 90’s, and with only 143k miles on this 37 year old coupe, this Black Pea

rl example has lived a pampered life. Set off by a factory optional automatic front spoiler and an OEM rear wing, the cosmetics are in good shape overall, although we wanted to note a prior replacement of the trunk lid and right side door. That does little to take away from this classic coupe’s value and appeal, and this sleek 32 should hold its value marvelously. Tuck it away in the garage or pummel it through a winding mountain pass, this R32 is both fun and easy to own, and we think this example is particularly special! This GTS-t’s cabin is in good shape overall, and we’d consider it above average compared to most R32’s. It’s surprising to think the design is well over 30 years old, as the power amenities function like new, the materials are all soft to the touch, and it’s comfortable and ergonomic for the driver. The seats are upholstered in a plush grey cloth, which is durable and has resisted any major rips, stains, or tears. It complements the black vinyl dash nicely, which has managed to avoid any major wear apart from some slight bubbling on the passenger side. Even the door cards are chip and scuff free, and the door panel fabrics are the only areas that show an iota of wear. The center stack frames a suite of three Pro-Comp gauges and a digital automatic climate control system that was quite ahead of its time. We have the A/C fully serviced so it blows cold, and hot heat isn’t too far behind in case you want to cruise this coupe year round. Adjacent to upgraded BOSS audio, the driver can monitor the RB20’s boost, oil pressure, and oil temperature on the fly. The new headunit also utilizes Bluetooth to pump in your tunes on command. For fans of natural ventilation, both power windows unfurl and close rapidly, and power locks and electric folding side mirrors assist daily use tremendously. A Nardi leather wrapped steering wheel replaces the tired factory unit and feels good in the palms of your hands. The remaining interior materials are in good shape, including the carpets beneath. The factory spare is intact, and if we really had to scrutinize anything the headliner shows a few stains from normal use. Otherwise, this cabin exceeds expectations for being over three decades old. Under the hood lies the formidable RB20DET. A top performer, this zingy turbo-six is easy to modify and maintain here in the states too. Our trained technicians have given this 2.0T a once-over, starting with a fresh oil and filter service when it arrived here at the shop.We installed all new studs and a new gasket on the exhaust manifold, and installed new serpentine belts to reliably drive your accessories. We also replaced one of the coil packs to ward off any electrical gremlins. With the maintenance performed, this turbo six shoots up to highway speeds with haste and is a hoot to drive. A throaty ISR exhaust unlocks a sweet symphony of RB goodness. The factory 5 speed manual selects gears smoothly and sends power straight to the rear wheels. The reconditioning didn’t just stop at the engine, we gave the driveline a once over to pass state inspection and keep this R32 reliable and safe for daily driving. We installed a new transmission output seal and replaced the shifter plate seal as well. The upgraded coilover suspension is soft and compliant, and soars over road imperfections. The power steering is light, and benefits from a full rebuild of the steering rack. We replaced the rack and pinion seals, and freshened things up with new steering rack boots. We flushed in new fluid, too, for good measure. New inner and outer tie rods were installed to properly dial in a fresh four wheel alignment. The brakes stop on command, and the stock alloys are wrapped in good rubber. Fresh off a four-wheel alignment, you can drive this R32 to shows, weekend cruises, or wherever you please, with the confidence that you’re in a unique, turn-key Japanese Classic!
