By 1993, it was clear Nissan was doing a fine job of creating sports cars. The Skyline was a racing and sales, success as was the s13, but time had come for substantial revisions to each. This S14 managed to improve on many of the qualities lacking in the generation that preceded it. For instance, the Silvia received a substantial interior upgrade as the quality of the materials was greatly improved. The platform’s rigidity increased a bit, and for that reason, the handling became even better than the S13. Finished in Black (KH3), the timeless proportions have been accentuated by a lowered ride height and a set of Watanabe two-piece wheels. The body is in good shape, sans some light clear coat fading on the driver’s front fender and a couple of errant stone chips and door dings. Full factory aero set off the already graceful body lines. Fitted with the factory front lip, side skirts, rear spats, and even the optional NavaN wing! Offered with only 67K verified miles, with a reliable SR20DE and five-speed manual transmission, this Silvia Q’s value is tough to beat!
A good indication of how well a car was cared for is the interior, and this 1993 has held up impressively well. Starting with the obvious, the dash lacks the cracking and discoloration present for nearly all s13’s. The visibility is decent around the cockpit, as the A-pillars are skinny and the dash is low slung. A custom Momo steering wheel and Nismo style knob dress up the modest interior nicely. The headliner and interior plastics are all in decent nick, as are the seats and carpets. The biggest interior flaw is some driver’s side bolster wear on the front seat, but on a 26-year-old vehicle, this might be considered nitpicking. Power accessories such as mirrors, windows, and locks all work as they should, and the A/C and heat can cope with both temperature extremes. The audio system is powered by a Pioneer head unit and tunes can be piped into the cabin at will. Best of all, the OEM mats, manuals, and even spare key is included in the purchase!
The driving mannerisms of this S chassis leave little to be desired. The steering is on point and the suspension is incredibly planted. Tein HA coilovers have replaced the OEM suspension, and are height and dampening adjustable. Largely due to 50/50 weight distribution, the way the car turns in is crisp and brakes are divine. Powered by a naturally aspirated SR20DE, the little mill makes a smidge more power than stock as it boasts a 5Zigen header, HKS intake, and A’pexi SuperMegaphone exhaust. The startup is as easy as a turn of the key, and the new 12V battery should last for the next four years or so. A fresh oil and filter service ensures that the four-banger doesn’t need any maintenance for another 3000 miles, completing the list of routine maintenance this car needed. Finishing off the look, a set of 17″ two-piece Watanabe wheels with new all-season Achilles rubber can be found at all four corners.
As a unique daily, or platform to modify, the S14 gives you plenty of options. Up to date on maintenance, with low verified miles, this S14 Silvia is an instant Japanese classic.
