About the Nissan Skyline R33
The R33 Skyline GT-R (BCNR33) entered production in 1993 as a longer-wheelbase successor to the BNR32, addressing handling characteristics identified during the R32's motorsport campaign. The wheelbase increased by 70mm compared to the R32, improving straight-line stability and high-speed behavior but drawing criticism from drivers who preferred the R32's more responsive turn-in. The BCNR33 retained the RB26DETT 2.6L twin-turbo with ATTESA-ETS and Super-HICAS, and the engine bay accommodated a larger intercooler than the R32 fitment.
BCNR33 variants include the standard and V-Spec. The V-Spec added a revised ATTESA-ETS controller, an Active Limited Slip Differential at the rear axle, and revised suspension calibration. The N1 spec removed air conditioning, audio, and rear seats for homologation racing applications. In 1995, a BCNR33 lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:59, at the time the fastest production car lap at that circuit, a result Nissan used in promotional material. Non-GT-R R33 trims (ECR33 GTS25t, GTS25, GTS) are rear-wheel-drive.
BCNR33 from 1993 is US-eligible from 2018 onward; the full production run cleared by 2023. Non-GT-R ECR33 from 1993 entered eligibility from 2018 as well. Right-hand drive. The BCNR33 uses a revised cooling layout and a larger fuel tank than the BNR32; the ATTESA ECU and transfer case calibration differ between R32 and R33 and are not interchangeable. Factory Brembo calipers on V-Spec require verification against available pad compounds before import.
