Combine Toyota’s refined and reliable V8 with their best full-sized SUV chassis, and you have an award-winning recipe for a certified Japanese Classic.
Exterior Overview
Here at Japanese Classics, we are obsessed with the 100 series Land Cruiser for good reason. They are doggone good daily drivers, balanced and refined, and offer the easiest servicing experience you can find in our inventory. That’s only half the appeal of this amazing chassis, and our 1999 VX Limited is a cherry example of the platform. Finished in White Pearl (057) this luxury cruiser is set off by one-piece headlamps, LED tail lamps, slim rainguards, and brand new 17″ ICON alloys. The cosmetics are in fine shape overall and are far superior to your average 25-year-old truck here in the USA. Still, there are some minor rock chips and dings to be expected, which do little to take away from this truck’s cosmetic appeal. Best of all, the 107k miles on the clock are verified, documented, and as a whole, this example is primed and ready for its next owner. Combine Toyota’s refined and reliable V8 with their best full-sized SUV chassis, and you have an award-winning recipe for a certified Japanese Classic.
Interior Overview
The doors carry a good amount of weight behind them, which helps insulate the cabin against any excessive road noise or debris. With a full slate of power niceties and upgrades, it’s evident the prior Japanese owner cared for this example. The cloth upholstery was designed to stand the test of time, and this Cruiser can seat up to five occupants. The materials are in good shape, free of any rips, tears, or spills. The cloth is complemented by a woodgrain steering wheel and accent trim on the dash, which also houses dual SRS airbags for the safety-conscious. The driver can settle in behind a tilt-adjustable steering column and also independently adjust the height of the seat base. The center stack features independent controls for the audio and climate, with the former headunit being upgraded to a touch-screen Eclipse unit. Adjacent to the audio, automatic climate control keeps the cabin supplied with cold air conditioning and hot heat to both forward and rear passengers. The rear seating is spacious, and it also reclines if your passengers need to catch a quick snooze. Up front, the driver can command power windows, locks, and power side mirrors to make daily driving easier. The headliner is clean, and the carpets below are in decent shape, save for a few light stains. Aside from a few nicks atop the dash cover, some wear beneath the steering wheel, and inoperable driver’s lumbar adjustment, there’s not much to complain about, as this cabin has been clearly loved and maintained for the better half of 25 years. Even the owners’ manuals and maintenance booklets are included with the purchase of this lovable Landy.
Mechanical Overview
This sturdy, body-on frame truck is powered by Toyota’s durable 2UZ-FE. Sold here in the States, this punchy and reliable V8 is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly, care of a new 12v battery installed here in our shop. To keep the 4.7L on the up and up, a new fuel filter was installed. We didn’t stop there, as one of our trained techs replaced the serpentine belt, too. We also did the labor-intensive legwork of replacing the exhaust manifolds, so the next owner shant fall victim to unwanted leaks or cracks. Power is fed through a stout automatic and sent to all four wheels through a selective transfercase. Low range is available if needed, and the center differential can be locked to tackle any loose surfaces. The ride quality is fantastic, and the Land Cruiser is truly prolific on pavement, with a new right front lower ball joint making the suspension safety compliant. For off-road excursions, there is decent ground clearance, and the long wheelbase feels comfortable and planted even at higher speeds. We dialed in the power steering rack with new inner and outer tie rods, and this big Cruiser is easy to turn and maneuver. The ABS brakes benefit from new front pads and rotors, and stop on a dime. We wrapped the new ICON wheels in meaty 33″ Falken rubber. The new all terrain tires look mean, quell road noise, and should last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Lastly, we performed a fresh four-wheel alignment. She tracks straight as an arrow and is ready to conquer stateside terrain!
