Exterior Overview
Tons of superlatives have been used over the years to describe the Land Cruiser. Determined, capable, and reliable are all terms synonymous with this marque. This 1998 model adds a healthy heap of refinement, with its smooth V8 and large, upscale cabin. Finished in a one-off Bravado Black, this J100 is set off by LED taillights, new lifted suspension, aftermarket fender flares, brand new ICON alloys, privacy tint, and an OEM rear spoiler. Aside from some light dings, chips and scrapes associated with normal use, the body is in fine shape and this righteous rig is fresh off a recent service. Offered with a mere 137k verified and documented miles on the clock, this terrific truck is barely broken in. Interior Overview
The cabin is expansive and filled with decent materials and electric options. The driver and passenger benefit from dual SRS airbags for added peace of mind. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading and the center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. An Eclipse touchscreen headunit supplies tunes throughout the cabin, and below a simple to use automatic climate system resides. The A/C and heat work like a charm and if you prefer more natural ventilation, the rear quarter class pops outward and the windows all power down with an integrated one-touch function. Equipped with a dedicated rear climate control system, rear passengers can find their optimum temperature settings. Also optioned was a third row, so you can adventure with more friends. The gray upholstery has held up well over the years and is actually in above-average shape for its vintage. The door cards are in good nick too. Aside from a non-functional moonroof, keyless entry system, and wear beneath the steering wheel cover, it’s hard to complain about the cabin, and its clear this UZJ100 was cared for in a prior life overseas.
Mechanical Overview
The beefy ladder chassis and nearly bulletproof V8 are a great combo. Add in a center locking differential, a fulltime 4WD tranfercase, and a low range, and you have a vehicle that can traverse nearly anything. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 2UZ-FE whirrs to life courtesy of a new 12v battery. New hood shocks made fluid and oil checks a stress free affair, and they hold the heavy bonnet up with ease. We replaced the fuel filter and engine air filter, and chucked in a new set of spark plugs as a part of our tune up. One of our trained techs refreshed the 4.7L with new valve cover gaskets and half moon seals. It runs right as rain and sends power to a stout automatic gearbox. Shifts feel reassuring, and it sails up to highway speeds with ease. It also slows down promptly, care of standard ABS and new front brake pads. The power steering is light and easy to articulate and the new Eibach lift kit rides like a dream with upgraded lift springs. To supplement the suspension refresh, we added new rear upper control arms and new front swaybar links. Riding on freshly mounted and balanced 33″ Falken tires, we preformed a fresh alignment to get this terrific truck ready to roll!
