The Toyota Chaser is a mid-sized sedan that was produced by Toyota in Japan from 1977 to 2001. The JZX100 is a third generation model that was produced from 1996 to 2001, with the Tourer V being the top-of-the-line model. The chaser Tourer V came equipped with a 2.5-liter 1JZ-GTE Twin-turbocharged inline six cylinder engine, which produced 280 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque from the factory. In terms of appearance, the Tourer V has a more aggressive body kit with a front spoiler, side skirts, and rear bumper diffuser. It also came from the factory with 17 inch alloy wheels and smoked headlights. Overall the Toyota Chaser Tourer V was a high-performance version of a well respected Japanese sedan. It’s popularity in Japan has made it a highly sought-after import for enthusiasts around the world. Luckily, this one has got all of the JDM taste, and a suite of tasteful modifications to go along with it. On the exterior, the factory wheels have been swapped for some 18inch Gravity wheels. Toyota’s 040 White looks fantastic on this chaser, and surprisingly is in excellent condition given the age and road use of this vehicle. Some aftermarket coilovers tighten up the ride a bit, and give some level of customizability to its next driver. Out back, you may even notice the Kakimoto Titanium tipped catback exhaust that puts out a beautiful note from the 1JZ. Inside, a host of gauges and creature comfort upgrades have transformed the experience of being behind the wheel of this JZX. A Recaro Confetti Bucket Seat sits in the driver position, and in front of that is a Juran Racing Deep Dish steering wheel with signal extenders. The interior of the vehicle is in very fair condition, and one of our favorite changes is the custom white suede interior accent trim. As far as driver oriented modifications go, a set of 3 Defi gauges for water and oil temp, and oil pressure sit near the steering wheel, while an Omoni Boost gauge sits on the driver A-pillar. A Defi differential pressure controller gives extra access to determine how “Limited Slip” your rear differential is. An HKS Electronic Valve Controller gives extra access to the engine’s power when you need it. A modified Short-shifter gives a notchy and direct feel to the transmission, and enhance the driving experience that much more. Under the hood, you’ll find the legendary 1JZ-GTE VVT-i. While the engine itself appears relatively stock, an HKS mushroom filter and TRD Strut Tower Brace dress up the engine bay a bit, while providing some additional function as well. While this vehicle has an unverified 130,936km on the odometer, we suspect that the vehicle is likely still around that mileage due to the condition of the vehicle and how stout the powertrain feels! Of course… that could be owned up Toyota’s phenomenal engineering as well. Overall this 1997 Toyota JZX100 Chaser Tourer V is a great vehicle that offers utility and fun. It’s no wonder it was so popular in Japan, and with them getting harder and harder to find, especially in such good condition, there’s not a better time to get behind the wheel of one yourself!
