Exterior Overview
The 70 Series Land Cruiser makes its presence felt wherever you take it. The iconic retro styling, incredible turbodiesel engine, and gutty 4WD are a fantastic combination, and this Japanese Classic can actually be daily driven with ease! Offered with a mere 118k verified and documented miles on the clock, this Prado is turnkey and ready to rock. Finished in a one-off Bayonet Black, this timeless Toyota is set off by LED tail lamps, refinished OEM wheels, an OEM skid plate, and OEM rainguards. Aside from some light dings, chips, and scuffs, the paint is in fine shape, and this lovable Landy would make waves at the local campground and cars and coffee alike. Reliable, capable, and cool, this 1996 model won’t last too long!
Interior Overview
The cabin is in above-average shape and was clearly cared for overseas. The upholstery, which is tan in color, lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The middle row can tumble forward to create a larger cargo area, and the rear jump seats split fold for added storage. The dash is also in better nick than most examples we see, with only a few minor cracks on the passenger side. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering wheel and electric lumbar support so that they may find the ideal seating position. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. The A/C blows cool for the summer ahead, and for this last stretch of winter, the Prado’s heat is piping hot. Adjacent a new Dual headunit blasts tunes through the cabin to supplement your commute. It also includes Bluetooth integration. Power windows, power locks, and power mirrors all function in typical Toyota fashion, making daily use more enjoyable. The tan seats are in good shape and lack any major rips, stains, or tears. The headliner and carpets are in good shape, and the door cards have escaped major damage over the past 30 years aside from a few light nicks. Headroom, legroom, and shoulder room are decent, and the split barn doors open wide to accommodate lots of cargo.
Mechanical Overview
The body-on-frame platform is able to handle lots of abuse. The same can be said for the engine, the 1KZ-TE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L chugs to life courtesy of a new 12v battery. A new fuel filter and engine air filter we installed as part of our tune-up, and one of our trained technicians has replaced the valve cover gasket so that the engine oil level stays full. The 1K is linked to a strong automatic that shifts like a champ. The pilot can choose between 2WD and 4WD thanks to a selectable transfer case, and the hubs can be electronically locked while inside the cockpit. The Land Cruiser gets up to highway speeds with ease and is a comfortable cruiser thanks to its long wheelbase. The suspension received a healthy refresh while on our lift. Front and rear panhard bar bushings were replaced, and we also installed new rear shocks and rear control arm bushings. It slows down confidently thanks to four-wheel disc brakes. The fluid was flushed while in our shop, and new front and rear brake hoses were installed. The refinished wheels are wrapped in brand new 32″ Falken rubber. Freshly aligned, this rig drives straight as an arrow, and a new steering stabilizer improves the steering feel. Turnkey and ready to rock, this old school Toyota would be ideal as a daily driver, and can pull double duty getting down with the best of them.
