The Toyota Celsior is considered by many to be the Japanese standard-bearer of luxury. This 1995 is important as it represents the brand’s second iteration of the vehicle. More of an evolution than a revolution, the UCF20 is faster, safer, roomier, and more efficient. Finished in a sleek (051) Diamond White Pearl, this V8 sedan is offered with a mere 85k verfied miles. The body is in good shape aside from some minor blemishes associated with normal use. These refined and well-built Celsiors are wonderful to daily drive, and this recently serviced and legally imported Japanese Classic is dying to hit the open road.
The cabin is in above-average condition and includes an impressive array of power amenities. The dash, which utilizes a clean design without overwhelming the driver with buttons and lacks any major imperfections such as cracking or distortion. An automatic climate control system is standard, easy to use, and blows cold a/c through the cabin. Below is the factory radio which can be selected to pipe some tunes into the cabin. The screen is pixelated so you’ll have to be handy with the seek function. The driver receives controls for power-folding mirrors, power locks, and windows. These all work well, and even the power-adjustable steering column still works. The front occupants have electric seats with powered seatbelt adjustors and dual SRS airbags, which were uncommon at the time. The gray upholstery is clean and lacks any major rips stains or tears. They are comfortable on long journeys and the UCF20 platform is is more spacious than its predecessor in terms of rear legroom. That’s not to say the interior is perfect as we did want to note some light carpet staining and that the gauges will momentarily stop working once or twice before springing back to life, a common issue on the Celsior. Still, at 25 years old that’s a bit of nitpicking, but we still wanted to make mention of it. The door cards, headliner, and interior plastics all have stood the test of time as well, and it’s obvious this car was cared for in a prior life.
The driveline is this car’s calling card and the 1UZ-FE is one of the most impressive motors Toyota ever designed. The 1995 and up models are lighter and include more power than the engine it replaced. This one is off a fresh oil and filter service and turns over quickly thanks to a new 12v battery. These V8’s idle so smoothly it’s difficult to tell they are running sometimes. The engine is connected to a silky automatic gearbox that feeds power to the rear wheels. Acceleration is impressive and highway speeds sneak up on the driver quite quickly if you arent watching the speedo. The 1UZ breathes better thanks to a new engine air filter, and our trained techs have also replaced the serpentine belt as well. The most expensive service has also been performed and this UCF also comes with a new timing belt. Cruising is a dream and this luxury barge is highly insulated to the road. It glides over speed bumps and the steering is feathery light. A new set of rear brake pads reduce stopping distances. The OEM silver alloys are all wrapped in new tires at all four corners. These units should last for tens of thousands of miles to come while providing year-round grip and quieting down the ride nicely.
