To turn heads at the local car meet, carve up the twisties on a weekend, or pummel down the interstate on a daily commute, this timeless Japanese Classic does it all, and does it well!
Exterior Overview
There’s an age-old proverb in Nissan enthusiast circles. The S chassis is the best chassis! This 1995 S14 Silvia K’s backs up that statement with a balanced RWD drivetrain, nimble suspension and steering, and a punchy turbocharged SR20DET under the hood. Finished in a fresh coat of Black Pearl (KH3), this S14 shows well, and is set off by a full OEM optional Navan aero kit. Covering the front bumper, side skirts, and rear spats, this S14 also boasts coveted OEM fog lamps. We did want to mention the hood was previously replaced in Japan, but with the fresh paintwork, that leaves little to complain about on this Silvia. Aftermarket coilovers shore up the gap between tire and fender, and slick refinished 17″ Bridgestone ZEIT wheels round off the OEM plus aesthetic. The cosmetics are clean, this Silvia is serviced, and save for a prior replacement of the instrument cluster resulting in unknown miles, there’s little to complain about with this Nissan’s condition. To turn heads at the local car meet, carve up the twisties on a weekend, or pummel down the interstate on a daily commute, this timeless Japanese Classic does it all, and does it well!
Interior Overview
Compared to most 90’s sport coupes, this S14 is remarkably roomy, chock full of power equipment, and has enough space and premium materials for you and a passenger of choice to cruise comfortably. Upholstered in a supple cloth, the materials are free of major stains, rips, or tears, and the patterned inserts on the seats are perfectly period correct. The soft-touch vinyl on the dash is free of excess wear, facing, or distortion, and the same can be said for the condition of the hard plastics surrounding the center stack. Digital automatic climate control is mounted centrally, and a modern BOSS headunit helps pump in the tunes with US FM and Bluetooth functionality. If your passengers are safety-conscious, dual SRS airbags are nestled behind the dash for good measure. Both windows power down on command to listen to the turbo-four soundtrack, but cold A/C and hot heat can easily be substituted if you want to keep comfortable. Also functional are power locks, and folding mirrors, that work well in true Nissan fashion. A Greddy boost gauge is affixed to the A-Pillar and gives the driver real-time feedback on the turbocharger’s performance. The rear bench may have enough room to squeeze in a pint-sized human, but the next owner will likely get more use out of the folding seatback, which expands the cargo capacity in the trunk. The headliner is clean, as are the carpets, which have been protected by some deep-pile OEM mats. Still, at this vintage, perfection isn’t possible, and we did want to note the power moonroof no longer tilts or slides, and the tachometer and fuel gauge no longer read accurately. Still, it’s what’s on the inside that counts, and the above-average condition should really satisfy our eager next owner!
Mechanical Overview
Under the hood is a Nissan heirloom, and one of our favorite performance motors to wrench on. The “notch-top” SR20DET under the hood is fresh off a recent service and offers a balanced powerband and easy to upgrade mechanicals. For starters, we tossed in a new 12v battery to aid ignition, and flushed out any old lubricant with a fresh oil and filter service. To keep contaminants out of your petrol, a new fuel pump, sock, and filter were also installed. Lastly, we installed new spark plugs across the board to properly combust it. This 2.0T starts right up every time and is a riot when you mash the throttle. A 5 speed manual gearbox is the driver’s choice. Shifts are confident and easy to slot into gear, and a new clutch helps throw the power rearward. The new coilovers pay dividends through back road twists and turns, and we installed new front tension arms to make the suspension compliant for VA state safety inspection. Best of all, we removed the rack and pinion and completely rebuilt it with new seals, boots, and new inner and outer tie rods. After we flushed in new power steering fluid, this S14 is easy and fun to dart around. The last line of defense between you and the tarmac, we installed new tires on the Bridgestone alloys. After a fresh four wheel alignment, you’ll track straight and stay supplied with grip in most every road condition!
