These little two-door Pajero’s mean business. Powered by a torquey 2.8L turbodiesel and underpinned by a sophisticated and capable 4WD system they will take you nearly anywhere you want to get, even when it’s off the beaten path. Finished in a smart-looking Summit White (W09) and Hamilton Silver (A71) two-tone, it’s accessorized by a polished JAOS roof ladder and rear wing. The body is in good shape aside from the normal small dings, scuffs, and scratches you’d expect for any truck of this age. This stellar 1993 model has been legally imported and recently serviced. Packed full of killer options and upgrades, this XR-II would make for a sweet weekend play toy or unique, turn-key, daily driver.
The interior is a highpoint for this model with a set of flashy adjustable Recaros being the main focal point. They look fantastic, are supportive, and lack any noteworthy blemishes. The dash is in good shape and lacks any major imperfections such as cracking or distortion. The automatic climate system is easy to use and works as it should. Power windows and locks make daily use easier and a Kenwood audio head unit replaces the factory one which functions just fine. The headliner, door cards, and carpets are in good nick while the rear jump seats look hardly used. The cabin isn’t perfect and we did want to note the power mirrors now have to be manually adjusted. The odometer is stuck at 111k miles, subsequently were selling the vehicle as unverified (not actual) miles. The tach works intermittently, and the front wheel engagement indicator lights stay on when the vehicle is in 2WD. However, the 4WD system functions as it should. Still. the lack of squeaks and rattles is impressive for a car of this age and it was obviously cared for in Japan.
Under the stubby bonnet sits a potent 2.8L 4M40 four-banger. Fresh off an oil and filter service and shod with two new 12V batteries this little truck fires right up with a twist of the key. It idles well and sounds great; yet runs even better. Connected to an automatic transmission power is fed through a selective transfer case. If returning decent fuel economy is the goal, stick it in 2WD and forget about it. In inclement weather, 4WD high and low gear settings are available. This little truck even includes a center locking differential if you encounter some real serious terrain. The brakes feel confident and the power-assisted steering is easy to articulate. The suspension is compliant enough for daily use and with a press of a selection switch in the cockpit, you can vary the damping between soft and hard settings. The factory alloys have been ditched for a set of multipiece aftermarket alloys and we have mounted new tires at all four corners. We even replaced the spare as well! These new all-terrain units will last for years to come and deal with the worst road conditions without breaking a sweat!
