When we consult with a new client, many ask questions about servicing their new Japanese Classic. When it comes to the full portfolio of SUVs we offer, nothing is as easy to own as a 4.5L gasoline-powered Land Cruiser. This 1993 is nearly identical to the US version and we have several customers that maintain directly with the local Toyota dealership! This 1993 VX Limited model includes a wide array of power accessories and boasts a mere 100K verified miles on this 4×4 chassis. Finished in Toyota’s classic Dark Green Metallic (6M1) and adorned with a polished brush guard; the body is in good shape aside from the normal dings and scuffs you’d expect from a 28-year-old truck. Fresh off a recent service, this legally imported seven-seat hauler would make for a killer family car or weekend toy.
The cabin has been kept up nicely over the years and it’s obvious this 80 was cared for in its prior life. The view of the road ahead is prominent and your visibility is fantastic thanks to the tall ride height. The dash does have some cracks to note, but that is fairly common with Toyota trucks of the era. On the bright side, this truck has dual-zone automatic climate control that works properly and blows cold. It’s easy to use and intuitive as is the Carrozaria head unit that replaces the stock one. This also works as best it can and is a nice touch for road trips. The driver has tons of power equipment to wield including power windows, locks, and even electric folding mirrors. In addition to those, the driver seat even has power lumbar support to boot. Not all VX Limited models came with the sunroof and CoolBox center console but this one doesn’t skimp out. The sunroof retracts, vents, and adds heaps of natural light to the cabin. The seating material is in above average shape overall and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The blue and gray Alcantara has an upscale feel and is still soft to the touch. The third row is still in the back and can stow away on the D-pillar to maximize the cargo area. The door cards are clean as are the headliner and carpets.
Under the hood sits Toyota’s silky smooth 1FZ-FE 4.5L engine. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the big 6 cylinder is aided by a new 12V battery. The powerplant quickly cranks to life with a twist of the key. Known to be one of Toyota’s most reliable engines built during this era, parts are inexpensive and readily available when needed. It’s also not a slouch by any stretch and makes enough power to merge easily onto the interstate and provide adequate passing power. Mated to an automatic transmission and full-time 4WD, this model does include a selective transfer case with low gearing. The auto shifts smoothly and lacks any clunking or hesitation. Believe it or not, this ’93 also has some tricks up its sleeve if you happen to leave the paved roads behind. Front and rear limited-slip differentials work in unison with a driver-selected locking center differential. These goodies should ensure you never get stuck in inclement weather. The brakes feel confident and the suspension is plenty capable to handles the rigors of daily driving without breaking a sweat. Silver 16″ alloys complete the look and are wrapped in brand new Yokophama’s. Our techs even took care of the spare tire as well. These all-terrain units will deliver year-round grip for tens of thousands of miles to come, and quiet down the ride nicely.
